Well I missed the forecast but it didn't seem that cold when I was out earlier! Now though it's now snowing very heavily here in Birmingham, anyone else getting it too?

We had a flurry about 1.30 which lasted about 5 minutes then stopped. Now it's mixed cloudy and sunny and quite pleasant - if you don't go outside in the biting wind!!

Nice day in London apart from a snow shower that lasted an astonishing one minute.
The sun is shining but it's cold, funny seeing as last Monday it was very warm and people were going around in T-shirts and shorts.

Quoting EK20 (Reply 4): It wasn't snow it was hail stones.
Not here, it hailed a lot earlier though. I'm surprised because it still feels so warm - just been outside in my usual shorts and T-shirt attire, and it's not even chilly

What I was out in was snow, it fell slowly and didn't bounce when it landed. It's been windy all day though!
Quoting PlymSpotter (Reply 2): I have a rather pissed off looking pigeon sat on my windowsill, which is getting progressively whiter
Well I have a rather ugly pigeon clinging to a branch in my garden as the wind howls around it, other pigeons just fight it an end up going backwards lol.

Dammit, every time I go to Europe or even the north east USA in the winter to experience what a really bad winter is like...the sunshine comes with me. I'm actually jealous I was there in December and January and I just missed all of the storms.
In case you guys think I'm joking, I'm not... I want to experience the absolute worst.

You wont get any bad winter storms in southern England but in Scotland, that's a different story. I heard today that they had average winds of 74mph (but I think that was a mistake by the BBC presenter) and heavy snowfall! Ireland get a lot of storms but not really any snow just very strong winds and heavy rain.

Try going to Svalbard in Spitsbergen. There are direct flights there from Oslo all year around or from Tromso in Norway, and the winter temperature often dips down to 40 below, and that's without the wind chill factored in. Mind you, it's only -11 there at the moment which is very warm!

Quoting RichPhitzwell (Reply 9): I was in Poland most of the time...even when I was in Dublin the worst we got was a mild sprinkle.
You got nothing in Poland! That's a shame I was there a few years ago and there was loads of snow. I have never been in Dublin when there has been snow but I know it's rare even though it happening more often in the past few years. In February we got a lot of snow, my school was shut for a day and there were minor delays at LHR.
I was just watching the Everton and Arsenal match and the amount of hailstones that have fallen is unbelievable they are about the size of a 5p coin. I know in America they can get to the size of golf balls but 5p sized ones in England is pretty big.

You need to go to the East Coast of Canada.
Anywho, is this snow hitting London at all? I'd hate for flights to be cancelled for a couple of inches of snow again

It's windy and cold here. I don't get the UK weather, it's so screwed up how only 2 days ago I was wearing a T-Shirt out, sitting on campus basking in the sunshine, and today I'm having to wear my coat again whilst trying not to get frostbite.
I upon receipt of the warning of this thread checked up the weather forecasts, as it today was plus 16 degrees centigrade and quite sunny and nice overhere ! , and now feel as pissed as that innocent pigeon, who now has my full solidarity !

Sleep sounds like a good way to avoid it come to think of it
...and the pigeon (which moved to a tree once it stopped and the sun came out) and starred in much of this thread's discussion
but the cold snap will be a short one, 4 days, and less snow forecast in the london area than we did have in Feb.
