Is there anything good sights to see in Munich? How far is Neuswanstein (Please pardon the spelling ) from there? is it closer to FRA or MUN? My cousin wants to fly to see it from LHR so I wonder which airport would be closer to the castle? Plus she would like to see MUN. Wondering what's there to see aside from the beautiful Olympic Park and that tower

Munich has got a very nice street for shopping. So you or your friend might want to spend some time there.
Also you can go to the Hofbräuhaus of course  Big thumbs up

Neuschwanstein is in the very south of Germany. It's about 104 km south of Munich.
Approximately two hours by car. Frankfurt is pretty much the opposite direction.

its a great city. The nearest airport if Frans Josef Strauss (MUC) which has a besucherpark (visitor park) one S-bahn stop out from the terminal. There are good areas for viewing from here, although you'll need a very longlens for pics, and around the airport perimeter.

In the city, you must visit the museums and the Marienplatz which is the main square. Watch for the glockenspiel in the Rathaus (City Hall) tower.

btw. Munich is the beer capital of the world. Try the Wiessbier. Amazing stuff

I went from ORD-MUC this summer continuing onto Croatia with LH. I know that the city of Munich is about 40 miles from the airport!

The airport was opened in the early nineties and replaced Riem which was much closer to the city

For the trip from MUN to downtown: don´t take a car!! It takes hours, ´cause the A99 and A9 (the Autobahn-circle around Munich) are always full of sururbans going home or downtown: it´s the hell. last week I had a mega-jam there (for locals:ottobrunn-freising 3,5h).
For the way down to Neuschwanstein you better also take the train (alight at Füssen). price must be around 20EUR return with the DB (Deutsche Bahn). On the way you can also visit "Kloster Andechs"- the bavarian mekka for good beer.

Have a nice stay in bavaria-if you need more info feel free to mail me

Don't miss the BMW factory and museum (near the Olympic villiage). It is very interesting. Even better if you are picking up a new Bimmer!

Maggs swings, it's a drive deep to left! The Tigers are going to the World Series!!!

My wife & I drove that exact trip (Munich to Neuschwansteinn) last October! True, the drive is about 2 hours but it will go by faster than that. Why? Because you will drive through some of the nicest scenery in Germany. The drive includes a stretch of the "Romantische Strasse" or "Romantic Road" in English. Not only is the scenery fantastic, I enjoyed scaring the bejeesus out of my wife on the twisty road whilst flogging our little rental Opel Astra.

I hope you have as much fun there as we did!
