Never watched one single show ever... really don't know. Though, Carrie Underwood was seen getting on a jetBlue flight here in BNA yesterday

It is kind if sad that this really isn't a true talent contest as it is a popularity (for better to worse) contest. That is too bad. There is some serious kick ass talent out there that is being overshadowed by a few (ok, one) not so good.

Blake - great to look at and great voice.
Melinda - The new American Idol.
Chris - all yours FSDPDC.
Kiki - runner up and will get some sort of contract with someone.

I'd venture a guess there's far more money in it for the producers from the TV show, tours, and other ancillary revenue than there is from selling a million CDs by the winner of the show.

But anyone with real talent, regardless if they're the winner or not, will go onto something great. Jennifer Hudson is just one example--she was the 6th of the top 12 to be voted off in Season 3. What has Fantasia Barrino done in comparison? Not much.

That's bullshit. You obviously haven't seen Leona Lewis - this years winner from the UK. She was working behind a desk in an office before this.

That is entirely an opinion. But since Sanjaya is still on, and people like Sundance and Stephanie are off, that is still viable.

This thread is about American Idol, as in the US, we do not get other Idol shows (those possibly being true talent), the UK version is relatively unknown. By all means start a thread about UK Idol. If it were shown here, there'd be more to talk about. It's all good.

Since people text their votes (voting multiple times at that), popularity (for better or worse) plays a huge part. How is that talent?

I pretty much agree, but I'd add Jordin. Any of those 5 *could* sneak in and be the American Idol. My power rankings look like this:

1) Melinda
2) Blake
3) Lakisha
4) Jordin
5) Chris

But then again, I had Stephanie at 6, and Sabrina Sloan at 7 once upon a time, with Blake not making the top 10. (Season of Loving made me a believer.)

Quoting AeroWesty (Reply 3):

She's starring on Broadway. That's pretty damn good! It just doesn't give the exposure of a movie. Jennifer Hudson might be the most successful Idol contestant of all time because of that one movie.

25 AeroWesty : I wanna see Sanjaya do a rendition of "Heatwave" reprising Whoopi in Sister Act.
26 AsstChiefMark : I was hoping for "I Feel Pretty."
27 D L X : People that are calling in to vote for Sanjaya in an effort to rig the competition are amongst the lowest of people. I can't for the life of me figure

30 AeroWesty : Where do you put people who troll internet message boards in your list? Took me perhaps 15 minutes to enter 100 votes last week. Anyone who'd be call

34 AsstChiefMark : Even if he's voted off, he's not going home. Since he's in the Final Ten, he'll go on tour for the next year with the other nine finalists.
35 Post contains images EWRCabincrew : Bingo!!!
36 D L X : And how exactly do you know that? I think you meant that 30 million total votes were cast for everyone. (That's what Seacrest said.) So, you're sayin
37 AeroWesty : 6-7 votes per minute x 15 minutes give or take. I have redial. Do the math. Now stop trolling. It's distasteful. It's not your place to make a judgme
