Blame Californians For Your Problems

Quite an amusing and interesting article going around on the AP today:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17791351/?=gohome

Quote:
Picking on Californians has almost become a sport, with people trying to come up with the catchiest slogans or blogging about how annoying Golden Staters are.

When John Wilker and his wife moved from Riverside, Calif., to Highlands Ranch, Colo., in 2005, they were told to change their license plates quickly or they would be run off the road.

As a Californian, I say...isn't this obvious already? And about smoking bans, I'm sorry but it feels nice to walk into a room that doesn't smell like crap.

Thoughts?

My fav quotes:

“California has a negative influence on our society,”

They infect the rest of the region with their politics and questionable driving

“Damn Californians,” she said, repeating a familiar complaint. “All their fault, all the time.”

In many cases, I prefer the smell of smoke rather than the smell of people with various levels of personal hygiene

I was amused when I visited Colorado, and saw a bumper sticker "Don't Californicate Colorado."

Have lived in California, have lived in Texas, like it better in Texas, but there is one helluva lot I liked about the Golden State, and I'll defend her against most derogatory comments.

But I'd not live in SoCal again, more than enough of that for one lifetime.

Blame California? Bah, silliness. If you don't like what they do there, ignore it. But we (and I mean, all around the world-we) owe California for meaningful emissions controls, as we know them.

Yeah Coloradans think they're God's gift to the U S of A and hate Californians and Texans for whatever reason. That said, Highlands Ranch, and most upscale Colorado developments on the Eastern slope are indistinguishable from any wealthy development in California and Texas.

True. However, the elimination of a "smoking section" in restaurants means that there is no place to eat where you're less likely to be seated next to a shrieking toddler.
As for smoking bans in bars/taverns/pubs...is there someone out there who frequents these places in the hope of improving their health?

In the late 1990s, Californians 'discovered' Austin, Texas. Before long, local parking lots were jammed with California license plates. I wasn't really bothered until the shine rubbed off for them; you could always pick a Californian out in any room as they would be the one saying:

* Gawd, it's like...so HAWT in here! It's like, a zillion degrees outside. Oh. Ma. Gawd.
* What do you MEAN, you don't have a vegetarian option?
* Oh. Ma. Gawd. Put that cigarette OUT! (loud passive aggressive coughing)
* Texas is like, so PROVINCIAL. They don't even have IN-N-OUT BURGER here, and there's like only 2 Jack In The Boxes in the whole city, and no CARL JRS.
* Texas is like, full of hicks. They TALK funny, oh mah gawd!
* Can I get that with like, a slice of avocado on top?

In 2001 my buddy Gerry and I were at a bar in Green Mountain Falls, Colorado. We mentioned we were from out of town. The bar tender told us that if we were from California we would have to leave. I showed my Michigan license and Gerry showed his from Missouri. The bar tender gave us the first round on the house and he and several patrons told us why they hated Californians. He went on about all those California hippies moving in pushing out the good ole' boys. A lot of the patrons talked about how the rising land prices kept the working guy from buying a nice place. It was a great little bar, with lots of smoke and country music.

I lived near Denver in the 1980s, when I was a kid, and I remember people knocking Californians all the time.

That makes sense. I always thought beer, whisky, and fried cheese sticks were healthy.  Wink

There is a hella bunch of people here from Texas.

Hmmm, given that Southern California can raise the mercury at a higher rate than anywhere in the US, I don't think that one was mentioned. Also, given the phonetic pronounciation you spelled out there, it sounds more like Texas than California.

More reason why I never take artist like U2 and rappers that like to grandstand there political views. It won't sink in to those that listen to there music.
Now get this. I've seen a 1960s Chevrolet Corvair with a Nader 2000 bumper sticker.  boggled

Well with the exception of LA and certain other unsavory parts, it's a pretty great state weather wise and geographically. That's why CA can afford to be so anti business whereas TX has to make life easy for businesses--people actually want to live in CA.
