"Islanders forward Chris Simon wants to apologize to the Rangers' Ryan Hollweg for Simon's now-famous stick swinging incident. The timing just hasn't worked out yet, according to a published report"

"Hollweg was asked by the Daily News if had heard from Simon yet and he replied, "No, I haven't talked to him to this point and I'm not going to go out of my way now."

The paper then asked if the news about the possibility of an apology was encouraging.

"Not really," Hollweg replied"

Hollweg is a flat out Pussy. Take the damn apology and move on. On a similar note, Hollweg was hit with a 5 minute major in Saturday's Boston game. The call?...........Boarding. I guess old habits don't die.

You telling me these guys don't have cell phones? If I had to apologize to someone, I would find a way. It doesn't take over two weeks to get in touch with someone. Everyone knows the apology won't be authentic, anyway.

Don't be a homer. I'm sure you weren't calling Pierre Turgeon a pussy after Dale Hunter jacked him. If someone whacked you in the face with a hockey stick, it's hard to believe that you'd feel the suggestion of an apology is 'encouraging' or just get over it and move on. If anyone is a pussy it's the guy bashing other people with his stick.

When I got loose at the pub after mixing Sudafed and beer, I just went right on down to the pub to apologize the following day. Surely these guys get a day off now and then.

Signed, LHMark

If Simon apologizes, he'll deny it blaming his concussion.  sarcastic

Of course they all have cell phones but he wants to be a man and do it in person.

"Chris Simon would like to offer a face-to-face apology for his stick-swinging attack that resulted in a minimum 25-game suspension for the remainder of this season and the playoffs. It could happen as soon as Sunday afternoon when the Rangers and Islanders meet at Nassau Coliseum."

"I'm going to call him, but I would rather meet him and apologize to him than do it over the phone," Simon said yesterday at the Islanders' morning skate. "But I'm going to call and see if that's possible. If not, then I'm going to do my best over the phone."

it's not a matter of playing favorites here. Chris Simon is a huge asshole for what he did and he is a dirty player. But he has more of a right to be on the ice than that puke Hollweg. Look at their stats. Through 125 career games, Hollweg has 8 points. During that same period Simon had 54 points. Hollweg is a menace on the ice and the pure reason he is out there is to hit anything that moves. The hit from behind on Simon was not his first and probably won't be his last hit from behind. He barely fights, he is strictly a pinball.

The whole Turgeon-Hunter incident is differen't because I am not sure if you recall or not, but Hunter put his hand out the day after and they made amends. Was it sincere??? who the hell knows or cares, but it was put behind them and the playoffs went on.

If you are a true hockey fan then you will understand why this has to be put to bed and done with already. The only way the US media will cover hockey is if a incident has occurred. It gives the sport a black eye and may scare away the casual fan. Until this is done with, shit sites like ESPN.com will be covering this and won't let it die. It constantly reminds people of what occurred.

Are you even a hockey fan????

Too late. A man wouldn't crack someone across the skull with his hockey stick.

Sounds like something you pulled from an Islander message board that attempted to justify this attack.

No, I don't remember that. Maybe you can provide a link or video to back this up. I do remember Hunter claiming he never saw the goal scored depsite it occurring feet in front of him, the goal light flashing and Turgeon's resulting celebration. Not that it would make things any different - they were both cheap shots. But if you want to talk about goons and stats, look up career penalty minutes and let me know if one of the top names sounds familiar.

You can hardly say it was put behind them when Turgeon had to miss the next series.

Well, if scumbags like Simon didn't wrap their sticks around people's skulls, there would be nothing to report. Nothing like a homer fan blaming the victim.

You really are delusional aren't you. I don't blame Hollweg, I think Hollweg was an asshole before the incident and I think he is an asshole just as much after the incident. SIMON IS TO BLAME!!! There, I don't blame the victim.

Quoting WellHung (Reply 5):

No I don't because it happened back in 92-93 which you very well know.

Quoting WellHung (Reply 5):

It was put behind them, Turgeon missed the next series and a few games of the Montreal series as well. The isles beat the pens in 7 and took Montreal to 6. Would Turgeon have made the difference??? who knows?

Tell me what should be done to all these guys? McSorley, Bertuzzi, Simon, should they be banned from the league because they used their stick?? What about guys like TooToo who punched Robidas who is still out. He didn't use his stick but that dosen;t mean he didn't do a scumbag move.

Or how about Donald Brashear and his KO of Brendan Witt after BRASHEAR! scored the goal.

Let's get back to the stick work. Do you remember when Adam Graves Slashed Mario Lemiuex in the division finals that put Lemiex out for the rest of the series. He took a 2 handed whack at him.

Should Graves be banned as well?

Shit like this happens, what do you want to happen? Just get a suspension and move on? Do you want apologies? tell me.

I am not justifying any of this crap, but it happens. Possibly for reason possibly not. But it happens it all sports. the NHL has to distance itself from it though and MOVE ON!

Not the guy who checked someone into the boards, head first, from behind?

Right.

"Crack someone across the skull"? It was stitches along the chin. And a "man" wouldn't hit from behind.
