Personally, I think alimony is a crock anyway. The article doesn't mention child support, so I'm assuming the alimony is spousal support. In which case, the receiver of that support should get of his/her ass and a get a job rather than sponging off of someone you were married to for 18 years.

It begs the question, if the lady-boy needs $1,250 a month from his/her ex-husband, how on did he/she pay for the procedure?

The sex change does not change the fact they were married. Divorce is divorce.

What are the reasons for the divorce in the first place?

YES!! All these years I thought I was alone in this sentiment.

That's not the issue:

Quote:
"My client did not agree to pay a man alimony," said one of Roach's attorneys, John McGuire, at Tuesday's hearing. "He agreed to pay a woman alimony, and when she changed to a man I believe she terminated that alimony."

That sure is the issue. Roach's lawyer is grabbing what he can to get himself out of payng alimony. Semantics at this point.

Completely agree. At one point, when the vast majority of women were entirely dependent on their spouse, I could see it, but not today. There may be limited occasions where it applies, but my understanding is its still pretty common, no matter the financial condition of the wife.

But, having said that,

Quoting ShyFlyer (Reply 4):

That's absolutely the issue. Roach agreed to pay his ex-spouse alimony, a sex change doesn't change the fact that the man/woman/person is still Roach's ex-spouse.

I think it is going to either be tossed out as having no grounds, or its going to open a whole can of worms, as to exactly what the point of alimony is. Should be interesting.

Of course a sex change does not erase history. But the woman he married no longer exists.

Quoting EWRCabincrew (Reply 5):
Semantics at this point.

Isn't that what legal agreements are all about?

Well, Julio Roberto's operation certainly cost her (or him, if... "they" paid after the operation) alot, so the $1,250 would probably come in handy...  silly

Cheers

Sure, we're concerned for our lives. Just not as concerned as saving 9 bucks on a roundtrip to Ft. Myers.

...and ex-husbands are never granted alimony, so she.. erm, 'he' should stop receiving it.
