I'm looking for some good trance songs preferably with little to few lyrics. Does anyone have some good suggestions? I currently have some DJ Tiesto and Armin Van Buuren, hopefully I don't have a lot of the ones yous suggest.

Thanks

I don't know any artists by name, but try this site;

www.philosomatika.com

It may have some good songs that you like.

http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums - Go to DJ Promotion and download a few mixes. The guys and girls usually post tracklists and you can pick and choose as you wish. That said if you are using the term 'song' to describe dance music you might struggle to find something you like

Also try Beatport or Audiojelly and listen to a few random artists to get the feel of what you like. If you are interested in hearing what kind of tunes I'm listening to at the moment try some of the following:

Jay Lumen - Million Years
Eelke Kleijn - The Rhythmshaker (Snake Sedrick Remix)
Snake Sedrick - Only One Way (Original Mix)
2 Monkeys - Video Games - (Cassino & Leben Remix)
Snake Sedrick - Effulgence
Snake Sedrick - Our Words
Snake Sedrick - Mirage
Quasar - Ritual of Boogie (Yvel & Tristan Remix)
Snake Sedrick - Cinnamon
Off Mind - Eternal Night (SS's Naturally Clear Mix)
Cassino & Laben - Unsound (SS Remix)
Jay Lumen - Inner Tour
Quasar - Funky Town (Yvel & Tristan Remix)
Jay Lumen - Lima (SS Mix)

See a pattern? I used to listen to harder trance from around 1998 through until a couple of years ago, my tastes have switched to much more funky, progressive style. I felt the 'trance' scene was getting quite stale. If you are interested do a search for McP68 on the Tranceaddict DJ Promotion forum, Michael is a German guy who plays under the DJ M.P. moniker and his Progressive Elements sets are superb!!

If you want a real treat download the Paul Oakenfold Essential Mix World Tour from 1999, should be available on Bittorrent like djmixes2k or Mixing Bowl. There are twelve mixes out there and they are legendary. Although Paul Oakenfold isn't much nowadays he was at the top of his game back in 1999 and every mix was quite brilliant.

Please download or listen to some of the above suggestions and some of what everybody else says.   Too often this threads come up and nobody comes back to say what they thought of the recommendations.

Am glad you like the Paul Oakenfold sets, they are rather legendary.

A good place to start is this exceptionally long thread from TranceAddict. Start at the last page and work towards the beginning. A real mix of music on those links but they are all sets as opposed to single tracks.

If I was to create my own set how would I go about doing it? How could I create a set and have a program to crossfade the songs together and them maybe burn them to a CD or create a playlist, is there a good program out there to do it?
If I wanted to be a "DJ" how would I go about doing it and get started?

Thanks

FighterPilot, if you want to do it digitally then Ableton Live is a really good place to start. It is an extremely powerful piece of software. This video featuring BT is a pretty good example of how easy and versatile it is once you know the ropes.

Also if you are interesting in learning to DJ then Tranceaddict.com is a great place to go. I used to mix on vinyl for a couple of years but gave up as I was hopeless and preferred listening to other people make it sound and look so easy  biggrin  There are three fora dedicated to mixing, production and promotion.

Cafe del Mar? Not exactly Goa by any means but CdM is a huge in the chillout/EDM scene. The part you quote doesn't sound familiar to me though, especially in reference to CdM.

Thank you anyway, I may just have to call the Hotel DJ in Goa and find out! BTW thanks for the excellent taxonomy of Dance Music you linked to a year or so ago - it's a must see for all on this thread!

Chris, here is something you might appreciate...

I'm in the process of buying a set of 1210 MkII that have spent the last few years at the Honey Club in brighton. They've been played on by the likes of everyone from judge jules and pete tong to roger sanchez, mylo, eric prydz, matt hardwick, john askew, ferry corsten, erick morillo. Basically name any mixmag top 100 DJ of the last few years and they'll have at the very least dropped cigarette ash onto the slip mats of these decks...

Talk about dance memrobillia!!

In that case they are decks "graced" by my good self as well then, when I came down for the Dusted night and afterparty. Big grin That was the night I was bringing in John Tejada "Sweat" on CD and got distracted, and took the wrong CD out. Gutted! Has happened three times when I've been playing, and this was certainly the worst.

I've got vague recollections of a certain well-known London filthy house DJ who shall remain nameless that same night doing lines of sherbert dib dab behind there in between the decks.

At least I think it was sherbert. Must have made the old nose sting though...  Wink

I've been thrashing all three of these out in recent months - Killa in particular, only got hold of YearZero recently and still a little unsure of best time to play it - either way, a massive, massive epic tune.

Nice to see some real feeling coming back to the trance - been too long without some epic stuff.

Orkidea has been on fire of late. Check out the new one from Carlo Resoort as well - top.
