So I was flipping through my XM radio this morning, and saw a song title. Figured I'd make a thread where you can post songs that make you think of a certain plane.

The song I heard was:

Gojira - Flying Whales

Made me think of:

I've always thought "Learning to Fly" by Pink Floyd was a great song.

It's ethereal and soaring, and in my opinion, really nails it.

"Leaving on a Jet Plane" by Peter, Paul and Mary (yes, I know it was written by John Denver and originally performed by The Mitchell Trio, but it didn't become a hit until Peter, Paul and Mary covered it.

Dos Gringos has plenty of songs related to aviation.  biggrin

Whenever I hear "Walkin' in Memphis" by Marc Cohn, I think of Northwest Airlines (and FedEx as well). "Touchdown in the land of the Delta Blues in the middle of the pouring rain. "....probably flew in on a Northwest DC-9.  wink

Justin Kawika Young's cover of it actually begins with a boarding announcement for "Hawaiian Airlines flight 705 to Los Angeles". And I'm still looking for the version that was used on the US version of Airline.

Awesome song, captures flying perfectly.

Add to the list "Recycled Air" by the postal service.

The Who - Glow Girl

Separates and lingerie, seven pairs of shoes,
Lots of Woolworth's makeup, a pair of Black Watch trews,
Your out-of-tune piano, sentimental photographs,
A million little memories, a million little laughs.

The wing of the aeroplane has just caught on fire,
I say without reservation we ain't getting no higher.

All you wanted from me, all I had to give,
Nothing matters you'll see, when in paradise you live,
The plane is diving faster, we're getting near the ground,
Nobody is screaming, no one makes a sound.

It's a girl, Mrs. Walker, it's a girl,
It's a girl, Mrs. Walker, it's a girl,
It's a girl, Mrs. Walker, it's a girl,
It's a girl, Mrs. Walker, it's a girl.

Cheery stuff. Big grin

Wilco "Dash 7"

Dash 7 in the air,
Dropped to the sun alone,
Jets hum

I wish that I was still there,
Props not a jet, alone,
Where the sun doesn't come down

Because I've found the way those engines sound,
Will make it kiss the ground,
When you touch down

Dash 7 pointed down
The captain's announcement,
Doesn't make a sound

Because I've found the way those engines sound,
Will make it kiss the ground
I found the way those engines sound,
Will make it kiss the ground,
When you touch down

I can drive faster than you

SNOOPY'S CHRISTMAS (SNOOPY Vs. THE RED BARON)
The Royal Guardsmen - 1966

O Tannenbaum, O Tannenbaum, [Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree]
du kannst mir sehr gefallen! [Of all the trees most lovely]

The news had come out in the First World War
The bloody Red Baron was flying once more
The Allied command ignored all of its men
And called on Snoopy to do it again.

Twas the night before Christmas, 40 below
When Snoopy went up in search of his foe
He spied the Red Baron, fiercely they fought
With ice on his wings Snoopy knew he was caught.

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ring out from the land
Asking peace of all the world
And good will to man

The Baron had Snoopy dead in his sights
He reached for the trigger to pull it up tight
Why he didn't shoot, well, we'll never know
Or was it the bells from the village below.

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ringing through the land
Bringing peace to all the world
And good will to man

The Baron made Snoopy fly to the Rhine
And forced him to land behind the enemy lines
Snoopy was certain that this was the end
When the Baron cried out, "Merry Christmas, my friend"

The Baron then offered a holiday toast
And Snoopy, our hero, saluted his host
And then with a roar they were both on their way
Each knowing they'd meet on some other day.

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ringing through the land
Bringing peace to all the world
And good will to man

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ringing through the land
Bringing peace to all the world
And good will to man

Thought a little holiday cheer was in order.
