Yet another reason to get a Mac:
If you recently installed the security update described in "knowledge base" ("gospel of sorrow" would be a better name) article 925902, do not be surprised if several pieces of your software stop working. In my case, it's the built-in calculator that I've noticed so far - in other words, a security update supplied by Microsoft has stopped an extremely basic and simple bit of software built into Windows XP from working. I'll keep this civil, but the swear words floating around in my mind are definitely X-rated... just like the words of the people in the forums I found via Google, to find the culprit.
So if you've recently updated your oh-so secure WinXP with one of the latest security updates (one of the 20 they must have churned out in the last two weeks), check if your calculator still works... if it doesn't, you can either leave it at that and wait for the next update or uninstall the update and hope for success, which is what I'll do.
Why can't this junk just work for one day without causing trouble?

Well, it worked. I uninstalled the update and calc.exe works fine again. BRILLIANT, Microsoft!
Quoting AndesSMF (Reply 1): Because it has 'Windows' in its title?
Probably... if only I had a couple thousand to blow on Macs. iMac for home, MacBook for on the road. I'm simply tired of Windows, and don't want to learn Linux.
Quoting AndesSMF (Reply 1): Surprised its your first time encountering this type of problem.
It could easily be the umpteenth time, it's very easy to lose count of your problems if you use Windows.

The penguin will assimilate you. Resistance is futile.
