It's really a shame that Buckner has to be attached to that one play for eternity. He was a great ballplayer. I have to admit I broke a great many things that night. I knew the second that Gedman let that Stanley pitch go to the backstop that the Mets would win in some strange fashion. What I didn't know was HOW.

At least the '86 team didn't go around whining about "Why Not Us". I guess there was hope for the Chowds being respectable in the past. Somewhere between the Evil Empire and "Fever Pitch" that was lost though.
