Ayaan Hirsi Ali: Woman Wronged Or Vindictive?

Ok, I know she has been discussed on this forum quite a while ago.
But I recently came across her interview in Vogue (I "borrowed" it from my lab-mate and read it during lunch..  Smile). Her interview provoked me to look her up on wikipedia.

Here's the link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayaan_Hirsi_Ali

She seems to ask questions which anyone of us in western world would surely ask ourselves and she dared to break the shackles binding her, things which a large number of people in her position can probably never do.
While at places she seemed to be on one side of the spectrum and go overboard in her opposition of Islam, at the other it all seems justifiable given her liberal thoughts and her original situation. At the end of it all, she comes across a lonely woman, wanting the same things that any one of us wants - love, marriage and companionship.

While I would like to know the opinion of people who have heard her, I would also like to invite opinion of people in the US, especially since she has been in US for the past year.

But towards the end of it all, I seem to ponder upon a few questions -

Why does organized religion, if they do think they are the "right" ones, finds it so hard to fathom any criticism? Why can't any one of them give sane logical answers to their critiques rather than brandishing violence?

And finally...
When the fundamental values cherished by humanity are so easily understandable in this day and age - Right to opinion, Right to free-speech and right to equality, and when all major religions fall over one another explaining how these rights are enshrined in their philosophy, why the opposition to criticism?

Remember the extreme leftist bias of much you will read on Wikipedia...

Ayaan has strong ideas, ideas that don't stroke well with the politically correct crowd, and she's had the death threats to prove her right.

While I completely agree that anything over at Wikipedia should be taken with a fair bit of healthy skepticism, much of my observations are based on the Vogue mag's piece on her. Sure in a Women centric rag, I can expect that Ayaan has been painted as a much lauded protagonist.
But then there's my point - In spite of all her leanings the article does end up with a poor pity on her, lamenting the loneliness which she feels.

And then that brings me to ask, what is so profound in an organised belief that even thinking people with free will turn against anything that opposes them?
Her life could have been a lot different, if only her thoughts were given due validation by her own religion.

Are you suggesting that the "PC crowd" sent her the death threats? Methinks her views on (fundamentalist) Islam *might* have had something to do with it, e.g. that short movie "Submission".

never noticed that... Did notice the extreme leftwing bias of many members though, which includes calling anything they don't agree with extreme rightwing...

The PC crowd may not have sent those threats, but they're the ones saying she should have just shut up and started wearing a burqah as the mullahs tell her she should...

I did see Submission online actually. I didnt think too much of it. I do agree with Aloges 100% though. Put Ayaan and Geert Wilders together... they make a great couple when it comes to their views.
