Hey everybody!
I'll be traveling to Campbell (San Jose) in May and I'm trying to decide where to stay. I'm tempted to stay at a beautiful hotel in San Francisco, but I don't know how the drive would be from downtown San Francisco to Campbell. I'd rather not stay in San Jose, but if I need to it's no problem as I've already found a couple of places I could stay.
I have a meeting in Campell on a Saturday morning at 10AM. I really don't want to drive for more than 45 minutes. If it takes longer than that, then I'll just stay in San Jose and drive to San Francisco on Friday and Sunday to take in the sights, and then drive back to my hotel in San Jose. As of right now, I'm flying CO into SJC.

Saturday Morning the traffic is normally pretty light, you might be able to do it in 45-60 minutes depending upon where in San Francisco you stay if you don't get lost. Highway 280 and 85 traffic normally goes really fast on Saturday AM.
Depending upon your schedule, you might want to stay right in Cambell for one night. The Pruneyard Plaza Hotel looks nice, but since I live here I have never actually stayed there.

If your meeting is only on Saturday morning, staying in San Francisco would be a great idea. There is hardly no traffic going to San Jose on a Saturday morning. I'd suggest driving down 280 because it is a very scenic freeway with very few highway patrol officers. People do speed on that stretch but I wouldn't recommend speeding.
Just enjoy the view and on a Saturday morning, it should take about 45-55 minutes.
The 101 is always unpredictable. That is endless suburbs for 40 miles with construction work and traffic is very frequent. The only highlight is the drive past SFO.

As Swiftski indicated, the Argent or the Palomar in San Francisco are both great. However if they are out of your price range, I know of some cheaper places.

Superfly, if I stay in San Francisco I was thinking about either the Ritz at Half Moon Bay, Hotel Nikko, The W Hotel... which one is in the best area and closest to everything "San Francisco".? Would the one in the best area put me further away from Campbell?
Since you say traffic is probably non existent on 280 to San Jose, I'll probably just switch my flight to SFO and stay in San Francisco.

Smart move.
You'll also have more flight choices.
Half Moon Bay is way out of the way. It is down the coastline and is a good 45 minute drive from downtown San Francisco and equally far from San Jose/Campbell.
Hotel Nikko and the W are great choices and are in the middle of it all. Not sure if you'll plan on having the rental car the entire time. If not, You can catch BART directly from SFO to the Montgomery and Powell st. stations where the W is located and just about all the other downtown hotels and only rent the car for your meeting down in Campbell if you want to save a few $$$ on the rental car.

On a Saturday the 280 shouldn'tbe bad at all. 280 northbound to San Fran sucks in the morning and southbound in the evening on weekdays if you have to deal with it.
My experiences with the 101 is that it sucks all the time. Perhaps not total gridlock but heavy and slow (kind of like Superfly's last date )
