In a missing-wealthy-pretty-white-woman case exceeded in scope and notoriety only by the Laci Peterson murder...
...it appears that the intercontinental search for Natalee Holloway has found its 2nd wind.

People disappear or are killed every day. Why should I have to hear about this person? What's so frackin' special about her? Oh, right...

I think she was atomically transferred to Venus where tiny Martians use her to cause chaos with big-mouthed, fanatical, and sensational reporters on FOX News and Headline News.

Why is this still in the news. It's almost as bad as all the news coverage Scott Peterson got. Things like this happen all over the world all the time. I have a feeling the reason these 'now big' stories got so big was they were first aired on a slow news day, it must've grown from there.

Basically, it was suspected that this whole evolution is just a formality they neglected to do when the murder took place.

Probably Paulis Vander Sloot had his influence stall the investigation on his son. No one really expects anyone to find anything including her parents. The Vander Sloots don't seen to be concerned either. They'll excavating the properties of Depak and Satish Kalpoe next. Joran is living it up in the Netherlands, living the rockstar lifestyle I would imagine. This accomplish nothing i'm afraid, dotting I's and crossing T's to make the inverstigation look thorough.

The news is all about ratings and money these days. If they feel more people will watch when they talk about Holloway, on the air it goes....

But are you surprised though? The reason both have gotten the coverage that they have, is because many view them as modern-day real-life soap operas.

Think about it:
Laci Peterson/Natalee Holloway..... Scott Peterson/Joran van der Sloot

All are young, wealthy, white, beautiful, and seemingly the person you'd be just as likely to have as your ideal cheerleader, housewife, golf buddy, or soccer teammate.

But all is not what it seems with the women: pregnancy, questionable paternity, infidelity..... drunkenness, fornication, disorderly conduct.

Now the females disappear, and the latter two are the prime suspects. Will their looks and connections save them, or will they fall to the status of ye pathetic mortals??? ---film at 11.

I guess with Paris heading to the poker and Anna Nicole dead the TV news needs something to talk about. God forbid they report on something that matters to more than 10 people in the country.

I agree, this person unfortunately is most likely dead, but seriously her family is making a negative publicity towards Aruba. People die everyday all around the world, but the fact that we have to dawn on somone's rather insignificant life. This is old news, and frankly we have more important things to report than a missing person who is probably dead.

Insignificant for those who did not know her. For those that did, her life was quite significant, and they are probably glad to get the attention.

To put it blunty, regardless of the media circuit, someone disappeared and probably died. As a parent, you will do ANYTHING possible to attempt to get an answer. So you show some fucking respect, because if you were in the parents position, you would ALL be probably acting the same way.

...JonBenet Ramsey, Chandra Levi (not rich, but the case centered around an influential individual), Laci Peterson, Elizabeth Smart, Natalee Holloway, etc. Also commonly referred to as Missing White Women Syndrome.

About the only blatant exception to this "rule", to ever gain similar nationwide/international coverage, was LaToyia Figueroa; but hers was a virtual "slam dunk" case that any 1styear detective could've solved, and was brushed aside by many as a token-- thrown to appease those expressing concern as to why only MWWWs seemed to be receiving that magnitude of media attention.

Joran is really the last person I'd like to be. Believe me, things are different. He just published a book and you, just like that hysterical mother Holloway and Dr. Phil, should read it before presuming he is guilty without room for doubt or accepting people are innocent except proven guilty.
True, it was a spoilt rich kid having a nice life with enough horny tourist girls who come to the island to choose from.
But then the nightmare starts, she disappears while for you it was just girl #213 and you hardly remember her, you think you get away with some white little lies not to get your girlfriend and parents mad, and next thing you know you are jailed and seen and discussed on worldwide TV as guilty by Dr Phil and many others.
I admire Joran for trying to pick up a normal life now and being open about the worst side of him; cheating on his girlfriend and not being a gentleman. He is just an ordinary student now except for some well known and local people still emailing and yelling at him that he's a murderer.

At the end of the day, this kid doesn't have it so bad. Best case scenario-- he's just a little sleezebag with worldwide infamy, worse case-- he got away with murder or accessory thereto.

Either way, there are a hella lot of people far worse off than he.

I never said he was guilty, I just said he was living the life of a rock star. There is no evidence link him to her other than he and the Kalpe brothers lying about about the tme they left her(apparently). He is still innocent until proven guilty, I never said anything more

Are you suggesting she wasn't just a token thrown out there to appease people who accused the media of playing race-ratings?

I really wish I could hear just one single news executive give a good reason for playing this inherently local case on national news other than $$$.

Nope, saying the exact opposite.

Granted, she had all the "ingredients" aside from being White-- but considering the case of Tamika Huston, I sincerely doubt there's any way Latoyia's story would've made it to Greta/Nancy had her parents not had the connections to get the typical baiters out there screaming bias.

Sadly, even Sharpton's pleas were barely enough to get Huston's story out.
