So they start shipping the new iMacs in March (well, at
least here in Sweden). Anyone buying it? The older version sold about 6 million....

No offense, but why would you buy an IMac?

To me they are very hard to use.

You're kidding, right? Or you've never used a Mac before? Perhaps all computers confound you.  Confused

I can hardly wait to get home from work and get on my Mac after spending the whole day on my Windows box at the office!  Big grin

Cheers
Pete

Well it looks like I know where about $1900.00 of my tax refund will be going. The iphoto program looks super. I was almost late for work watching Macworld on TechTv yesterday.

There's only one thing though: the new iMac looks like an avant-garde toy. It just doesn't look that professional in terms of computer design.  Insane

Well, it isn´t Apple´s professional line, so a friendlier look is in order, I think. And it does look friendly - in a stunning kind of way...  Wink/being sarcastic

Especially compared to the lame me-too design of almost all Wintel boxes... Big grin

RayChuang: So to you, only ugly beige boxes look "professional"?

I have been using Apples for all my life, I have used Windows computers at school,
and let me tell you, they are absolutely rotten.

I think that Apple should be congratulated for coming out with designs like this,
if it wasn't for Steve Jobs and his band of merry men, we would still be using ugly
beige things!

BTW...what Mac do you all have?

I have a PowerMac 5500/250 in Black, and an iMac DVSE Snow 500MHz.

The new iMac looks like a desk lamp on steroids...I don't find it very appealing.

It is an original design, but lacks practicality and expandability...the two main reasons you should buy a computer.

Supposedly the design is based on that of a sunflower.

Mainline G4PP Apple machines are plently practical and powerful...the IMAC line is aimed at the stylish buyer but it does give plenty of power for the price.

Pretty, but I'll save up for a top of the line 1.6GHz Dell for $899 (instead of $1299 for the IMAC) instead.

I gladly pay more for a Mac. Hoffa, will that extra $400 you saved be earmarked for repairs, trouble-shooting and downtime for your PC?  Smile

The Mac is a great computer. Although I only get to use the Mac in school, it's been super! A little expensive though. I'll just stick to my PC for the moment. PCs have been serving me well enough so far.

Same as you Carmy, I use PCs at home and both PCs and Macs at school. Sadly, they are only old Macs. They are replacing them with PCs. They are a break from Microsoft!

The new iMac is cool. The middle model is stupid because for $300 more you get more ram, more hd, and dvd burning. The low-end is a good price and good machine though.

If I didn't just buy a Dual 800mhz G4 then I would probably want one of the new iMacs. Then again, since I got the dual, I got a dv cam and have started doing dv editing and stuff, so the iMac probably wouldn't suit my needs.

I also have a pismo g3 400mhz laptop, and a badass oldschool Performa 6115. Before that back in the day was a Mac Plus with a 2400 baud modem and Prodigy internet service. Ahh memories.
