From where I'm sitting now (in my office / electronics shop) there is one less than 2 meters behind me. Then I have two in my mechanical shop in my converted barn, since I do some welding work from time to time. I have a fire blanket in my kitchen, smoke detectors all over the house and two smoke hoods under my bed in my bedroom, which is a converted attic. The reason is that the house (built in 1900) is largely made of wood and would be a trap in a fire.

I'm located 17 steps from the nearest fire extinguisher in our house. It is a 9 lb dry chemical extinguisher.
We bought it last year after I took a smaller (3 lb ?) unit next door to put out our neighbour's stove top grease fire. I was not impressed with that very small unit and I thought we should really have a larger unit to give us a better chance of putting out a serious fire.

At home: I don't own one. I have no idea if any neighbors do. I'm screwed.
At work: Probably no more than 15 seconds running at any time. But of course why would I run to the extinguisher if work was on fire? I'd run out the door and let the place burn down, thats how much I care about work.

Well at home I don't have one at all. However, at work we have them all over the place. There are 3 rows of presses in my area with 16 presses in each row. A fire extinguisher is placed at the end of every other press. There's about 3-4 feet in between each press. Since I started there almost 2 years ago no one has ever had to use one (if we have a fire we dump it on the floor and stomp it out)

No more than 10 feet. I do all of my ammunition reloading in this room and all of my amateur radio gear is in the room too, therefore it is imperitave to have a good extinguisher handy just in case something were to go wrong.

I just measured the distance to mine too. The distance from my current location to the extenguisher is 58 feet. I'm upstairs and it is half way into my basement... And as I was measuring the distance my dad said we should get a new one. We've had it for 8 years now and it's covered in dust.
