A good friend of mine is having a birthday very soon, and has been saying for ages she wants 2 CDs of greatest hits by Dusty Springfield and Janis Joplin. I was thinking I would do them up myself, and use that money to buy her something nicer than CDs. So I need some suggestions as to what songs you would regard as being essential for a "Best of" CD of the 2 artists above.
I am drawing a total blank (almost) for both. All I can think of is:
Dusty Springfield
* Son of a preacher man
Janis Joplin
* Me and Bobby McGee
* Another little piece of my heart
* Mercede Benz (my cousin who is about the same as Janis in stature and voice can sing this better than Janis herself....IMHO).

Dusty Springfield songs:
My very favorite is "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me".
Others are: "The Look Of Love", "If You Go Away", and "Wishing And Hoping".

Yeah, I agree, but I'm not very familiar with these singers.
I was dissapointed that "Back In The USSR" was left out of "Beatles 1" CD.
"Flying from Miami on BOAC, man did I have a dreadful flight" (or something like that)

Your version of the lyrics isn't too far off. I have the White Album here, and have just put it on...my singing the song didn't quite help to clarify ....this is what I hear:
flew in from Miami Beach BOAC didn't get to bed last night..on the way the paper bag was on my knee man I had a dreadful flight....I'm back in the USSR....you don't know how lucky you are boy....back in the U.S.S.R.
And before anyone says that I should know everything about Dusty Springfield (may she RIP) and her music, I can only say that this is the 21st century....we don't worship Dusty....we worship ABBA and Kylie
