OK everyone, it's all-star weekend time! Here's the lists for the Open and the All-Star Challenge.

Nextel Open
http://www.nascar.com/races/cup/2007/103/data/entry_list.html

It looks like Aric Almirola and Jon Wood will be in the Open and it looks like Boris Said got a ride in the 37 car with Front Row Motorsports for the Open.

All-Star Challenge
http://www.nascar.com/races/cup/2007/105/data/entry_list.html

Casey Mears is in the race because the #25 team won a race last year with Brian Vickers, in case anyone was wondering.

I thought that it would be fun if we could have an a.net vote for what driver should be in the All-Star Challenge, just like what they are doing on nascar.com right now. So you can look at the drivers in the Nextel Open race and then decide.

My vote is for Martin Truex Jr., as he has improved alot this year with several top 10 finishes.

Oh, and mods, you can lock NASCAR: Darlington 11/36 (by AllegiantAir May 11 2007 in Non Aviation)

FWIW, DW flew to Charlotte today.. for some reason, his private Aircraft really never stays on location, and flys back the same day to Nashville... I've never figured it out... overnight and Pilot hotel/food fees couldn't be as much as flying it back to Nashville and then back to the race site the day of the race as Citation 5's use a good bit of fuel...

Flight too KJQF with DW

Flight back to KBNA w/o DW (Got to see it land in person today)

Odd, my only guess is that he has to go to the location of the next race a few days in advance, then his plane flies back to its base and comes to pick him up after the race. Strange, if I were the pilot, I'd just stay in Charlotte for the race!!!

P.S. What does FWIW stand for???

Bill Elliot is going to drive 2 races (to use up his champions provisionals) for Wood Brothers Racing in the 21 car. His first race is The Coca Cola 600 at Lowe's next weekend, and Dover after that.

And for Reutimann, both Burger King and Domino's will be on the car for the Nextel Open.

JJ Yeley is gonna have a black car with the lightning stripes on it for the Open.

And to round things up, Ryan Newman is looking for a possible new ride for the '08 season, and has talked to JGR about it too.

A few thoughts:

-I would like to see Ryan Newman come over here to Joe Gibbs Racing to drive the #18 car. Having Stewart/Hamlin/Newman on the same team would rock. I doubt Dale Jr. will come to Gibbs next year due to Gibbs objection to Budweiser as sponsorship.

-I am tired of Hendrick winning. Ya, I know they are good but damn it is getting boring.

-I am tired of these phantom cautions coming out when a Non-Hendrick car is leading. I am also tired of NO caution coming out when a Hendrick car is leading although it clear warrants one.

-Is Michael Waltrip in the field for the Open/All-Star Race? LOL

Mr. Pole Position needs to seal the deal one of these times for me to want him on my team. I think he's a good choice, but I'd much rather see Dale in there. The deal Bud has is with DEI, not Jr personally, so he could do what he wants. I believe he was speaking to this in the interview with DW on tv the other day, clips of which were shown all through the broadcast. Did anyone else notice how flushed Jr looked in that interview? His nostrils looked as if he's been hitting the kleenex hard.

I agree about the Hendrick stable. Hate to see the same horse every week, but you can't argue with their success. I've always liked and respected Jeff Gordon, but have never thought much of Jimmy Johnson. That incident last year when bam-bam Vickers kicked Jr and Jimmy Johnson aside for the one victory he'll ever get was just aweful. I felt bad for Jr, but wasn't too upset for Jimmy Johnson. Jimmy has had some rough and tumble races in his past where he wasn't exactly kind with his front bumper late in a race, then ducked the microphones when it came time to be accountable.

And the late race cautions are BS. Sure, if its a piece of metal near the raceline, okay, but windshield tearoffs and hot dog wrappers along the wall are NON-FACTORS !! Let 'em race !!

Back to the subject matter of this thread...........GO TONY !!

Looks like some good racing coming up. Too bad I don't have TV to watch. IMO there are some interesting drivers in the All-Star Challenge.

Ya, and Hendrick Motorsports won't be winning the Nextel Open, either!!! I have a busy day tomorrow, so I'm not sure if I'm gonna be able to watch the races.

That would be really interesting, considering their recent history:

Yes it would. I'm a Tony Stewart fan but I also like Ryan Newman. I think its good for the sport to have a rivalry develop between these 2 drivers. Although, If Newman comes to Gibbs they will have to work out their rivalry.

The All-Star race used to be one of my favorites on the schedule. NASCAR screwed it up.

That race was the most boring All-Star race I think I've seen. Highlights included seeing the Busch brothers cancel each other out in the 4th segment, though. Montoya also made about 15 more enemies at the start of the Open, too. I was just glad the 48 didn't win; he's had way too many races fall into his lap over the years.

I don't like the new format...the 4 20 lap "quarters" made things redundant. I wish they'd go back to the 40-30-20 format, or if they want 80 laps, 40-30-10. They should've at least kept the random inversion.

This one was pretty bad because Goodyear (again) brought an utterly awful tire to Charlotte.

They had 12 months to improve it, and did.... nothing. Of course, they're NASCAR's exclusive supplier, so why would they?

 Yeah sure

L O S E R . . .

He needs to go . . .

Preferably out of NASCAR, but until then I'll settle for into any wll of convenience in any race in which he starts . . .

He's dangerous . . . he's a loser.

Yes, defiantly. I'm hoping Ragan will beat him for the ROTY honor. Penske Racing is also bringing up Hornish Jr, so the cup drivers will have another Indy driver to worry about.

My dad's armchair play-by-play of the first couple corners of that race went something like this:

"....there goes Montoya 3 wide......and he's loose!...and there he goes, he just wrecked half the damn field...jeez, what a joke."

I remember saying once that whoever wrecked both Busch brothers in one race would probably end up a NASCAR hero. I didn't think they'd take each other out, though.
