Bush Sr's term was from Jan 1989 to Jan 1993. Bush Jr's term, so far, goes from Jan 2000 to Jan 2004. Supposedly, the young one won't make the same mistakes are the elder, but he has.
Elder Bush proclaimed "no new taxes", the whole time the Gulf War went on, he had good ratings. However the economy started to fall a bit during the war but everyone's attention was with the war, so they didn't care as much. As soon as the war ended, everyone was like "oh my God, look at the economy." Then came the taxes. Poor elder Bush's reign was over.
Enter the youngin' Bush Jr. Rather than say like father "no new taxes" (cuz there will always be new taxes), he decided to better it, a tax cut. As he blazes across the Golden state blaming Democrats for the economy's problems (cuz he didn't get as high a tax cut as he wanted), he is getting the highest rating in Presidential history -- because of another war.
I think he learned well not to make his fathers mistake, he won't end the war, he needs it since the economy is going south and to win the 2004 election. But how the hell was he supposed to know that we'd be attacked and it would cost so much making the tax cut bring us back into a deficit?
It was planned that way. Some of you still don't realize how a dead president is way more important than a living person. To a capitalist nation like USA, billions of dollars are more important than a few thousand Americans. Bush Sr. let the war end, he lost to Clinton; little youngin' has scapegoated Clinton for his fathers ills and claims he isn't father like son. Bush needed this whole thing to happen, you guys remember how much everybody was making fun of his intellect, or lack there of? How he was interviewed before the election and he didn't know where some well-known countries were?
War keeps your mind from thinking because you are too busy being patriotic (pure emotion) -- and that is what Bush intends to use to get a 80% landslide victory at the 2004 polls, chads or not.
Bin Laden is either dead or captured, if he is alive it is better still, this administration is going to purposely let him get away just so he can build up his forces to plot another attack. More attacks, more war, more patriotism, and every law Bush Jr. ever wanted will be passed.
If not war, what's he going to do for 3 years, defend his tax cut that put us into this economic slump in the first place? He'll lose the election if people start paying attention to the economy! He's got to convince everyone that he's a good guy and this war is the only thing he got going right now. Four months in and his ratings are still high.
But then these are my observations, yours may differ.

L-188: of course something was lacking, communication between Clinton and the CIA. Keep in mind that despite being a democrat, Clinton was from the south too, why else did we have so many mergers in the last eight years, he had some *cough* republican flavor in him. A real democrat would be from Maine or California or Washington for example.
A texan President is about as republican as you can get, well beyond Rush Limbaugh (sp?).

If you guys are saying that 9/11 was a conspiracy, I don't believe it one bit. Now if you are saying GWB isn't all there, well, hehe, that's another story.
Nah I like him, but I'm not sure whether in the 2004 election I'll vote for him or not, sure he has my approval, but I'm not biased towards him. I do wonder what would have happened if Gore had won the 2000 election, what do you guys think would have been different? Personally I wonder if Gore would have had a shave in the aftermath.

I don't think anyone is saying conspiracy (at least I hope not). I'm getting that Lehpron feels the war was convenient or well-timed for GWB, otherwise the economy would be noticed. Actually, I think the economy is noticed and surprisingly, a USA Today poll indicated that slightly more blamed Clinton for the recession rather than Bush. It was something like 44% to 36%. But my point is, people see the economy, they just don't feel GW came in and turned things upside down like you boys want to believe. Besides, one could argue a good economy kept Clinton's numbers up despite his sliminess, just like the war keeps Bush's numbers up despite this lack of intellect you claim. Same thing, different version. But Clinton's sliminess was well proven, while Bush's lack of intellegence is still largely rhetoric and unproven (and I'm talking REAL proof, none of this botch a word BS). I don't buy into the fact that the Bush admin would keep the war going for any other reason than to meet its broad objectives. That aside, 2004 is pretty far away and the economy will hurt GW if its still down by then. Not so much because he caused it, but because he didn't fix it. I hope it is turned around much sooner then that. I'm sure you guys hope so, too, even if it does mean 4 more years for Bush....right?

Oh ok, bit of a misunderrstanding.
MY own opinion of Bush is that he's more like a common man. Usually a president, in my own opinion, seems very prestigious, important, above everyone else. But bush seems like a guy that you coudl talk to on the street, he seems more normal and not unlike the rest of us, so I dont think that he's lacking in intellect (it's fun to joke about it though ) but rather think that he's just a bit like the rest of us, for that I like him.
But I wont dive into political discussions too deep, they alwauys erupt in fights. I'm a fence sitter actually whatever looks good to me is what I go with but I'm open to new ideas.

That USAtoday poll shows that the public realizes that the recession started in the last months of the Clinton Administration.
GW is just faced with cleaning up the mess and restarting it.
