Hi

Can't provide the links as these were a while ago...

I was part of the Commissioning team to open a brand new High Dependency Unit at a local Hospital and was pictured with The Duchess of York (then)

In my younger days I won many tennis tournaments and was often in the local newspapers.

Then when I got married (all of 4 yrs ago!) we had an A&E Ambulance take us from the Church to the reception. My Husband, being a Paramedic, organised it. We were in all the local press as it was a first and unusual transport for a wedding !

We went to a motor racing meeting some 25-odd years ago and because it was the last meeting before the track was closed there was a lot of coverage in the local press. We were in the pits when I saw my wife (then girlfriend) being led away by some dude with a camera, a week later she was on the front page of the newspaper's special report on the racetrack's history. I still have it somewhere.

Well done Braulio for the work you do for your district ! The articles are nice. As you know we also are doing some work around this "neighbourgs party day" here in my own district and Geneva newspapers will also cover the event, I hope it will be large articles as yours  Smile

And for the main topic of this thread, yes I did have my face a lot of times in the newspapers as I toured with different bands but I didn't scan any, I'm too lazy for this  Wink

"There are 18,174 railroad ties between Barnesville and Bethesda."

Many times over the years as a performer or for getting some award, but my favorite one happened by accident. As a teenager I used to walk the railroad tracks to the next town, just under 7 miles up the line, eat somewhere like DQ, then walk back home. One day I was really bored, and decided to count the railroad ties between the two towns. As I was nearing the town, the police chief there, who was a family friend, saw me on the tracks, stopped to talk for a few minutes while I told him what I was doing, then went on his way. A little later, very much to my surprise, I found him parked along the tracks by the station with a newspaper photog, who took my picture as I counted, and put it on the front page of the next issue with the above headline., followed by the story.

I love being in the newspaper. I'm a journalism student, so I had a column in my community paper while interning during HS that ran with my picture. That was fun to open the paper every week and see myself staring back.

I'm also been in Newsday, interviewed for a thanksgiving story that ran with my picture.

Some were of me giving EMS presentations at government meetings. Some were of me teaching people about first aid, tornado and disaster preparedness, and CPR. Others were press photos taking during EMS emergency responses.

I was in the newspaper once. Back in 5th grade my school put on a space camp and I was the commander of our shuttle mission. So I had a good pic with my crew in the paper with a few words from me about what we were doing in space.

Quite a few times, starting way back in high school regarding sports, then numerous times as a CHP officer at accident scenes (paper, and tv). Once when I was about 16 was visiting my grandfather in Klamath Falls, Oregon and when to a mill for a tour, well the local paper was doing a mill tour story, presto my picture was all over the paper, and then the reported ended up doing a story on my grandfather who was a crew member on the first test flight of the 707.

I made the local newspaper cover-picture (Plano Star Courier) the main newspaper (Dallas Morning News) and a news station all in one night. It was a ground breaking meeting of street racers and the cops who chased us. It was kind of a peace offering-with no arrests, just discussion. We don't know how the press found out about it, it was only supposed to be about 10 of us and a cop (he had a huge sting op on us two weeks prior-lots of arrests).

And I made my old universities newspaper when I got mugged-because a friend of mine with similar build was brutally mugged with a baseball bat (hit on the skull) so they did a story on a rash of muggings of students

I made the local newspaper another time for football and rugby also.

A bunch of times, but my favourite one is when my and my classmates appeared in the local paper of Gujo Hachiman, a small mountain town in Japan. We were doing a weekend homestay as a part of our Japanese summer course, and were doing a bunch of traditional activities, meditation (where a monk pummeled me with a stick for slouching), tea-ceremony and calligraphy. A journalist followed us around, asking questions and snapping pictures, and there I was, front-page of the Sunday issue. They got my name wrong, since I have a non-hyphenated double last name; Mats Wiberg Doona, it turned out Donna Mats-Wiberg. Or Doona Matsu-Waiberugo, as it was pronounced in Japanese.

Cheers

With very few exceptions, my "newspaper experiences" have been factually devoid gossip being spread by the local 2-bit tabloid rags here. I don't save clippings.

I did get a rather nice article a few years ago when I went home to India to vote in the elections there and got featured by a few media outlets.

Democracy In Action : 20000 Miles To Vote (w/pics) (by B747-437B May 24 2004 in Trip Reports)

I even have a stalker who saw a TV interview I did last year and managed to get my phone number from one of my airport staff! She calls every few weeks but I have so far managed to avoid a meeting.

When I was 3 years old my grandparents took me to YVR to welcome the B.C Lions back after losing the grey cup (Canadian Football League). As I was getting an autograph by superstar Matt Dunigan, there was a photographer from the Vancouver Province newspaper and he took a picture of the two of us. The next day my father gets the paper and by the beard of Zues I was on the front page of a paper that distributes around a few hundred thousand copies.

Also many many times for Lacrosse and Ice hockey I've had my name, pictures and everything in different newspapers.

Back in 1986 as a member of the engineering branch of the German civil defense I was in charge of the technical side of the demolition by explosives of the old AFN transmission mast in Berlin. Since it was a fairly spectacular event, lots of press was around including TV. I appeared in several newspapers and the evening news.

Let's see -- more than 40 years writing a wide variety of articles/columns from sports to politics to business in half a dozen major dailies in North America, plus magazines. I'd say close to 5,000 bylines by a rough count. Byline euphoria disappears quickly, unfortunately, and the byline on the payroll cheque becomes the most cherished; well, not entirely -- it's still a rush when you get a good story that no one else has and they splash it on the front page.
