I played almost every night last academic year (my dorm had a pool table in the lobby). I've gotten quite good at it and even learned a couple trick shots. Recently I've been playing speed pool with some friends at home...a nice change of pace. I'd love to have a table of my own someday.
Only in a "does-flying-an-aircraft-in-a-flight-sim-count-as-really-flying?" kind of way.
There is no substitute for the feel of a properly weighted cue in your hand as you carefully work out the angles of a beautifully executed shot in your head before making it happen on the felt-covered field before you. Pool sims teach you nothing about overcoming the hazards of dead bumpers, threadbare patches on felt, un-level tables, and crappy, corkscrew-shaped house pool cues. Real pool players overcome these difficulties with ease, and the best pool players use them to their advantage.

I play pretty much every day, my local pub is half way between the office and home and I stop there on the way home and play a few games. Every Tuesday they have a "killer" competition which is well attended and good fun. Last Tuesday I had one of my best runs, winning 4 before and 3 after the competition including beating the best player in the pub twice (one a whitewash)
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

I've been watching everyday and talking to the owners who are teaching me. I think its a good hobby to take up as its very therapeutic for my autism. Its like 30 miles r/t but well worth it. I'm saving up for a pool table though I dunno where im going to put it in my apartment. Lol.
