Question About Remakes Of Movies

As an Avid movie watcher, I just have to ask whether the remakes of some movies are better than the originals? These include:

Cheaper by The Dozen
Mine, Your and Ours
Poseidon Adventure
Longest Yard
Miami Vice

As for the above, Cheaper by the Dozen is my favorite.

Remaking a movie tends to destroy the intent and the soul of the original.

Don't care if I ever see a "remake".

I think that's the only one that is better than the original. Most aren't as good, but they do a real good job od some remakes.

The advantage a remake has are the improvements in filming technique and special effects, and that's about it. I just watched the original "The In-Laws" over the weekend for the first time in ages, and it was just as funny as before--the safety demo on Wong Airline still has me laughing out loud. I didn't like the remake they'd done a few years ago much.
