As expected -the participants in this years G8 meeting have failed to confirm previously given promises to increase spending for African and third world aid...
Aid for third world counties should not just simply dump money into doubtful chanels, but invest in real projects allowing those nations to become self-sustaining;most importantly the trade -barriers shoud fall.
Glenn Eagle -two years ago- fixed certain percentages of the GNP's to be allocated for third world aid.
One should stop those useless, costly media events without any tangible results!
Angela Merkel will have a hard time to produce any results at all - give it a break and kill the event.
Also on the climate-front and environmental decisions -no agreement.
World leaders should meet once they have decided to really move forward -just keeping calender fixed meetings without real intention to change things is ridiculous.
The "big eight" lose more and more credibility and re-enforce unilateral positions. And ,as expected, the EEC has no power what so ever to impose facts.A predictable and sad outcome...

Well, it's hardly over, but I too doubt anything will actually be agreed on at that summit. Here's a suggestion, move the whole thing to Guantánamo where you won't need any additional security... the way they're handling it up there certainly reminds you of "Gitmo".

And to think that I'm paying part of the €100.000.000 or so it costs!  banghead

Is it any surprise that these summits are pretty much just vacations for world leaders?

You're right, we probably should expect it... maybe Cuba might be a real alternative then, right in the Caribbean and all.  grumpy

Really not a bad idea, but I think they'd get criticized for not giving the demonstrators an opportunity to protest. Didn't they try that with the WTO?
