Say what you will about him he's done pretty good in the music business scouting talent and turning it into record sales. While I think he can be quite harsh with folks on the show it is something they need. I know there are plenty of folks who know they suck trying out just to get on TV but there are also plenty of other folks who think they are great when they in fact suck.
I'd rather him tear into the parents and sycophants that continually told these peckerwoods that they could sing great and how they could do anything in the world they wanted. Those are the folks who should be humiliated...not the dumbass who is too stupid to realize they suck.
At the end of the day he seems to be doing pretty well for himself and I can't fault him for that. Stay snarky Simon.

From what I've seen, I think he's an uptight asshole but it's hilarious when he mocks the countless idiots trying to perform on that lame ass show. No, I don't watch the show, youtube = friend.

He's a silly goose! But I agree with Jpax. He isn't an an arsehole intentionally -- he is brutally honest. If you are a rotten singer he won't make you feel good and say practice more you will get better, he just tells you flatly, you suck nothing you can do will ever help you. And of course it makes quality television.

He's a complete tool, designed by the producers to be the token asshole. His opinions are all artificially pointed, just to hurt peoples feelings, stir emotions of the viewers, and grab ratings. Next.

A man who is making an awful lot of money out of these talent shows. Most of them are produced by his own company. Any good acts he gets to sign as well so its a double win for him.

Two very good comments that go together. I tried to get into the show the last two times it ran. I liked Melinda but I don't remember anyone else. Other than that, the show itself is a waste of space. I don't even know what Simon did before the show started. What makes him an authority on good singers?

I thought these shows are his brainchild? If so he stuck his neck out and has been enormously successful. Can't fault him for that.

He's honest and not frightened to tell contestants if they're shit. He is a musical genious- he's been in the industry for MANY years and knows what's hot and what's not.
