Alas they aren't the first pair of USC students to fall to their deaths. I think it was my sophomore year at USC that a girl died on move-in day. Her parents had just moved her into Patterson (a 9-story dorm for female freshmen) and had gone to lunch - she wanted a smoke, as I recall, leaned out her window to smoke, lost her balance and fell to her death. IIRC, her parents got a decent settlement from USC afterwards too.
