Hey all,

Just a little bit of self gloss that I couldn't hold back! I just got invited to attend training to become a CSR for ExpressJet Airlines, based out of RDU. This is for the independent operation, and not for any activity related to COEX or DLCON. I can't wait! Everyone at the RDU station is really upbeat about the new operation, and the city has been performing well.

This is my first job in the industry, and they told me when I graduate from college w/ my Marketing degree, there will be plenty of room for advancement with the company down at HQ in Houston. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there since I'm only going to be a sophomore, but I just thought I'd share the news!

Hope to see as many of you as I can down at RDU and at other XE stations!

For shame sir! Have you not heard of underage drinking? It is as American as apple pie to paraphrase H. Rap Brown.

Congratulation on your sucess. I know that you are looking forward to work at RDU. I would love to work for aviators but unable to do it. But it does not stop my hobby about aviators.  Smile

Thanks everyone-- I can't wait to start! Right now, I am waiting to hear where training is. It's two weeks of training. The class normally takes place in Houston where the airline's training facilities are, but because of space limitations, they've been having classes in Kansas City and Ontario, too.

Congrats man!

As an airline agent, (cross trained, I do counter and ramp!) it is a pretty rewarding job if you like aviation and airplanes. You will have "those" days when you wonder if you really do love it... I have been doing this for 7-8 years total, took some time off after my first stint, then I have been at this same job for almost 6.5 years. You will have your stressful days, but overall it will be very rewarding, or that is the way it is with me. Keep your head up, it will take you a long, long time to figure all the intricacies out. Heck, we have an agent that has worked for the company 25 years and she is still finding new stuff. Learn as much as you can, don't ever try to know it all, you never will, just never cease learning. Good luck, may you survive re booking your first canceled flight!

My favorite job of all time, despite often being treated as disposable by my employer and the occasional extremely irate passenger was being an international CSR for AA at ORD was a wonderful time I will never forget. I hope expressjet takes you far!

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement. Tazz, I am also going to be cross-trained so there will definitely be "those days" but it seems like the XE team at RDU is really motivated, so hopefully we'll pull through those issues as a team.

Best bet is to be out on the ramp during one of "those days" as the baggage can't talk back to you. I have been on both sides and the ramp is the better one of the choices if it works for you.

That is the key to making it through, I too work with an awsome bunch of agents. We strive to be the best, and we have a lot of fun doing it. Some of the best feelings I get are when the team faces a lot of challenges and pull off "miracles", making up time on a turn so you don't blow conx down line, and other such events. It is a up and down industry, but fun none the less! When people ask if I like what I do, I typically answer, I get paid to play with planes don't I? Enjoy!

Quoting Freshlove1 (Reply 15):

How true is that! Unfortunately here we have such small crews for the flight, that when irregular ops happen, we all are up at the counter helping the customers. I have worked strait ramp for another airlines, xld flts were easy going for me there.

Congratulations.

I ramped for almost four years while going to college and earned a management position shortly after graduation. Get the job, get the degree, get some time with your company, continue to network, and the rest will fall into place.
