Thanks for startin' the thread, Dan! I appreciate it! Anyway, here's the winners from this year.
Daytona: Kevin Harvick
California: Matt Kenseth
Las Vegas: Jimmie Johnson
Atlanta: Jimmie Johnson
Bristol: Kyle Busch
Martinsville: Jimmie Johnson
Texas: Jeff Burton
Phoenix: Jeff Gordon
Talladega: Jeff Gordon
Richmond: Jimmie Johnson
Darlington: Jeff Gordon
Lowe's: Casey Mears
Dover: Martin Truex Jr.
Pocono: Jeff Gordon
Michigan: Carl Edwards
Infineon: Juan Montoya
New Hampshire: Denny Hamlin
And if anyone cares, the two drivers entered in this race that have not made a race this year are Eric McClure in the #04 Hefty car (who sucks in the Busch series, so I doubt he could qualify for this) and Kirk Shelmerdine in the #27 Lilly Trucking of Virginia car. (he has his own team but only enters in the Daytona races??? What???)

Haha, thanks, but I'm just a fan, not an employee :P Oh, and feel free to start these threads on Thursday or Fridays if you're sick of waiting for me to get one up.Same goes for Pep, and Duff, and everyone else. But I'll try to get them up by Friday of each week.

Dude, could you try to get me a pic of Johnny Sauter's #70 Haas Automation car? That would make my day!
Anyway, it looks like JJ Yeley had the fastest lap in the first practice followed by Biffle, Bowyer, Newman, and Kurt Busch.

As a diehard Ward Burton fan, I'm a bit intrigued with the rumors of 14 employees being given temporary layoffs at Morgan-McClure Motorsports. Once a proud (and stout) single car team, MMM is unfortunately about out of gas I'm afraid.
The other rumor I'd like to see go away is the thoughts being pondered by Brian France of moving the Daytona 500 to the season ending race on the schedule. I'm totally against this. You get the fans foaming at the mouth for the season to begin at Daytona with 2-3 weeks of solid racing between the ALMS, NASCAR etc. in late January, early February and to have the biggest race of the year be held off until the last week of the year, near Thanksgiving? No no no, Brian. Your father must be rolling in his grave...

Tonight's qualifying being rained out 3/4 of the way through just about seals the deal for me with NASCAR. I'm done.
While not a fan, in particular, of the top 6 drivers tonight, the fact that the pole sitter is not going to race tomorrow night because of the rain out is BULLS**T. The Busch race being run tonight doesn't HAVE to start on time, does it? No. While there would be some advantage, possibly, in continuing qualifying on Saturday morning, wouldn't that be more fair to the drivers that had already qualified, and were IN the race (Said and Blaney were locked in when it was canceled).
WHAT A JOKE, and I am tired of it.
Thanks for continuing to kill the sport I used to love more than any other.

The top-35 thing is new (and garbage, I agree), but if everyone doesn't get a chance to qualify, none of the times count. That's the way it's been for at long as I've watched (which is approaching 25 years), and is nothing new.

NASCAR will die if he retains control for the next ten years. It might not take that long.

I'm at 28 years and counting with NASCAR (1979 Daytona 500 was my first race that I saw on TV, like a lot of folks). I'm more excited about seeing a 1977-8 Olds 442 than a Porsche 911 of Ferrari Enzo. I'm old school, no doubt about it. I know that rainouts in the middle of qualifying are rare (maybe the second time in 5 years it's gone this way), but I think that NASCAR, in this day and age of the crappy Top 35 rule, needs to revisit things and look to delaying qualifying until everyone has finished, when it rains in the middle like this.
The reason for the cancellation was that it would delay the Busch race tonight. Guess what? That race was postponed until tomorrow anyway. Why not have the last 14 cars, of which I believe 5-6 were part of the go/go home crowd, come back at 0900 and finish things up. True, temps would be different, but that's the breaks. Remember, this is the last race of the restrictor plate bodies before they go to the COT at Talladega (correct me if I'm wrong here). Boris Said's hot lap most likely would have held, would have put him into the Bud Shootout ($$$$) next year and what's he got to show for it? "The world's most expensive showcar", he said this evening.
Frustrating, I know. And true, nothing new. Vickers must have gotten some Karma this week after getting booted from last week and not having enough speed, already eliminated from racing tonight, but he'll be racing tomorrow while Boris will be reporting for ESPN instead of lining up on the pole.
Good night

Woo-hoo! My in person race of the season has arrived!
Went to the infield & Fanzone on Thursday before the Rolex race. Was standing mere feet away from Harvick, Bowyer, McMurray, Michael Waltrip & Tony Stewart as they golf carted from the Busch garage to the Cup garage for Happy Hour. Got Kasey Kahne's autograph walking into the Fanzone. Watched Happy Hour from the roof of the Cup garage...that was cool.
Rolex race was fun to watch. The #99 Gainsco Daytona Prototype was the class of the field all night, coming back from a penalty to win. IIRC, somebody on here works for that team.
Watched qualifying (before it got rained out) on TV...didn't feel like sitting in the hellish heat. Sat around yesterday waiting for the Busch race, which never happened.
Went to the Busch race this morning. My clothes were soaked in sweat by the time the green flag fell. Kyle Busch won...Montoya almost wrecked Leffler in the tri-oval & then later spun himself. Harvick's spotter told Kevin to get away from JPM because he was a "weapon" on the racetrack, which I agreed with. Ungodly hot, but it was well worth it. At least we were at the top of our section of grandstand & got a breeze from time to time.
Looking forward to tonight...Go Jeff, Go Smoke!

Petty Tower, Row 50 for me. Won't be able to meet up as I'll be busy all day, though. Did you go to the Busch race?
Quoting A340Spotter (Reply 6): Tonight's qualifying being rained out 3/4 of the way through just about seals the deal for me with NASCAR. I'm done.
I see your frustration, but that's the way it's been...that's not a result of the "new" NASCAR. Jerry Nadeau got screwed out of a pole at Atlanta in 2002 because they were unable to finish qualifying. The Top 35 rule sucks...I hate it, but Boris would've missed the show anyway, unfortunately.
Quoting AllegiantAir (Reply 1): Kirk Shelmerdine in the #27 Lilly Trucking of Virginia car. (he has his own team but only enters in the Daytona races??? What???)
(continuing from above) He had a stunning run in qualifying...14th when they called it, I think. But had qualifying been able to finish, he would've gone home courtesy of the Top 35 rule.

Boris was on the pole and was already locked in at the time the rains came. He and Blaney were locked in no matter what transpired.
Watched the Busch race this morning and I see that Kyle Busch's car failed post-race inspection due to illegal, or out of spec, shocks. Second week in a row for Alan Gustafson, his crew chief, and him failing post-race. Wonder if the Busch Series penalty forthcoming will result in a suspension (Gustafson is on probation at this time) in both series for his crew chief?
Rumor on jayski.com is that it's about to go away or be amended. Personally, I'm against the Chase, but if they are going to lock anyone in, then it should only be the Chasers (Top 12). Would make qualifying a bit more fun as well, especially as if you looked at the Daytona qualifying times, the top 6 at the time of the rain cancellation, they were all go/go-home cars. You could literally qualify 8th this week and go home because of the Top 35 rule.
Sigh
Enjoy the race folks!
