Unfortunately, this day was going to happen sometime, but now it appears Aug 17 will be the day. Patrick announced on his radio show that it was time for him to move on and try other ventures. He implied that he lost the passion for ESPN and was ready for something new.

Another piece of the old guard of ESPN will leave the company. Seems like only Bob Ley is left from pre-1995. Sad day for Sportscenter fans. Long live, dare I say it, En Fuego.

My mom told me about this tonight, she ran around with him when he was a DJ in Dayton, OH back when she was in her 20's. Going back to radio, where he got his start...glad to see he is doing what he wants and leaving on a good note with ESPN.

What? You haven't forgotten the Swami (Chris Berman), have you?

Maybe we'll find Patrick sometimes alongside this guy.

Support Airliners.net - become a First Class Member!

He needs to hook up with Craig Kilborn and start a new sports show.

And I was just watching the All-Star Game earlier too and listening to back, back, back, back too many times. Is there anyone else that I'm forgetting?

Now that would be a good show, but he said he wants to get out of TV, so sadly I don't think this will happen.  Sad

Where? FoxSports? Sure, they'd dominate the landscape over there, but wouldn't he better off simply as king of the sportsworld where he is? If he goes to another sports outlet, he's nuts. Someone doesn't go from top of the heap to a lesser place for no good reason - the only guy I can consider doing anything like that is Rich Eisen, who went to the NFL Network.

Whatever Patrick does, all the best to him. But I'm curious as to what he's going to do - News? Author? Acting??? Maybe Athletic Director somewhere?

Where he's been all this time? I can't remember the last time I saw him do SportsCenter. But he's had a daily radio show on ESPN Radio for years. He'll probably get a syndicated radio show.

As recently as last year he did the 6 pm eastern show regularly and he still does pop in and do a sportscenter on the rare occasion, just like Chris Berman.

Damn, this sucks.

I guess all I have left is "The Herd" With Colin. And I can only take him in moderate doses.

Mike & Mike are alright, I guess. But when it came to good reporting, good interviews, a wealth of historical information and stats... Dan Patrick is the man. And I don't like KO's political views, but the guy is an amazing source of baseball knowledge, and his predictions are usually on the money.

Early afternoon radio is gonna suck.  Sad

I started listening to ESPN radio about a year ago, and stopped about three months ago. I'm with you; Mike and Mike is OK but runs long at 4 hours. Dan's show was the best that the World Wide Leader had to offer on the radio side.

Cowherd is awful. He steals material from the web and gets whiny when confronted about it. He'll take a stand that makes no sense on some random issue non-sports and then spend an hour defending it just to fill time.

Ley seems content with OTL, as it allows him a great degree of freedom.

As far as pre-1995 goes, you can add Stuart Scott, Kenny Mayne, Linda Cohn, Rece Davis, Suzy Kolber (who came back), Karl Ravech and Steve Levy

Given the headache Kilborn seems to be, I don't think he want's that
