Quote:
LARGO, Fla. - A 38-year-old man was arrested after he called 911 and told a dispatcher he was surrounded by police officers and needed help, authorities said.

Quote:
Shelton, who officers said appeared intoxicated, then called 911 to report he was "surrounded by Largo police," according to an arrest affidavit.

But the best part, is how the police responded:

Quote:
"Our officers were standing there scratching their heads. He called, standing there in their presence," Largo Sgt. Melanie Holley said. "It's one of our 'truth is stranger than fiction' cases."

I hope they at least fine him the $1,000, and maybe a few days in the clink. All though, I'm sure he won't spend any time in jail. But the fine should be the max.

Fine him but keep him out of jail. The space in jail could be used for more deserving people. Give him a couple hundred hours community service instead. Also a detox program would probably be a good idea.

Isn't a fine for something like that a bit exaggerated? Overhere he'd probably just spend one night in jail, and once he's sober again, we'd kick him out...

I saw this mentioned on ABC World News Now "headlines" segment early this morning, like 3:25am...but they didn't mention Largo, although I seen that before...

About 15 yrs ago or so, I did a couple of civilian ride-alongs with Largo PD...I remember a Sgt. Holley, but that was a guy, and this said "Melanie", so must be another one...back then, I listened to them on scanner for months (back when they were on 450mhz+-) so had gotten to know a number of officers (somewhat) via their badge nbrs and voices and personalities...quite interesting way to spend an evening doing ride-along!

For a big city dept, they were still doing some "small town calls" in person at that time, which I thought was nice...instead of just taking info via phone or saying it's not important enough for response...

Welcome to the Gestapo thread. It is funny as hell and all you little Buck Sargent's can think is BUST HIM.

I wish I had a cell phone.
