Greetings everyone. Since it has finally become Friday, thought it was time for another stupid thread on here. Being as we now have the British Open playing, thought it was time for something golf related. With that, here is today's topic:

For those golfers, how many golf balls you typically lose when you play a round?

Now I'm sure most of us are no Tigers or Mickelsons, so be honest. For me personally, I'd have to say I lose maybe two or three each time I play. About 90% of the time, they get lost in the rough and prarie grass seen here In CO. Amazingly I never happen to hit the water, although my dad is opposite of me. Anyway, as the question ask, how many you typically lose?

Usually 1, occasionally 0, thats when you know its a good day.

Heres another question, do you like playing in the morning, daytime, or evening? Ive always loved to be the first out there.

Cheers,
kyle

On average, I'd say two. I've played rounds where I lost five, six, seven or more, and I've played rounds with the same ball start to finish.

No doubt - I can hit every shot on the course just like either one of them. Trouble is, I can only do it a half a dozen times per round rather than nearly every shot.  biggrin

My dad lives on a golf course. His backyard overlooks a par 3 where you have to hit over a lake. On the average, out of every foursome, one ball goes in the drink. I wanted to get on scuba gear and dive the lake but my dad told me he would disown me. There have to be thousands of balls in that lake.  scratchchin  If it weren't for his nosey neighbors I would dive it when he was in Florida. These are the same neighbors who complained when i bought an RC gas powered boat and terrorized the local water foul population.  devil

I will usually lose between 2 to 5 every round. I think I played one round where I started and finished with the same ball. That's very rare for me.

I lost at the most once 4 balls. It was a really a bad and windy day. I was playing out east on Long Island and it was October, sometimes a breezy time. The wind was grabbing my balls. I kept looseing my balls and I was pretty frustrated so I did not even try after that. Another time down in Florida I took a hack with one of my old drivers and the head wentr with the ball into a pond. Other than that I usually loose one a game. I am not one to bet on my games because I am not talented in Golf though I would like to be sometime.

It all depends if there are lots of water hazzard. I haven't lost any balls this year...played only one round.

BTW, I love to put my balls in the ball washer. They get a good scrubbing and comes out nice and clean.

Normally I lose 1-3 balls per 18 holes. If I play 9 holes I lose two at the most.

I live a half block from a hilly course with VERY narrow fairways. We picked up so many balls while walking the dogs that I've started carrying a messenger bag to put them in. I think my record on a single walk was around 170.

BTW, I don't play, and if you're in the LA area and want to take a bunch of these off my hands, c'mon by.

Do you guys watch Dirty Jobs on the Discovery Channel? One job Mike Rowe did was go to golf courses looking for lost golf balls in water hazzards, cleaning the balls he found, then selling them back to the pro shop. They said there was lots of money to be made in that.

It's a vicious cycle.....golf is a good reason to get drunk...and drunk is a good excuse for the way we play golf  wink

Depending on whether or not the course has much water on it, if I lose a couple a round I'm doing pretty good.....then again, my success (or lack thereof) on losing golf balls is directly related to how many I FIND.....if I find more than I lose, I'm doing good, no matter how many I lose  wink

I read recently about a golf course in the middle of the demilitarised zone between the Koreas, for the UN soldiers based there. A golfer wouldf wisely NOT try to go loking for any ball, which went off the coursem since to the left and right of the greens and roughs are life minefields.

Ditto. Although more of the former and less of the latter  Smile

We have some thick woods on either side of the course near my parents' house. That plus some narrow holes equals lost balls.

You could start earning a pretty penny - sell them for $0.50/ball to golfers going to the course. That's a better deal than can be found at most courses.

That said, I'm hoping to be back in the LA area in a couple months, and I'd gladly take some off your hands  Smile

I play two courses semi-regularly. One of them, I've lost one ball, its on the roof of the golf cart shop. There is one major water hazard, but, its possible to keep the same ball from hole 1 to 18. The other one is in a master planned community with 14 holes. I, on average, will lose anywhere from 4-7 due to the annoying water hazards.

I hate the second course.

Way too much work... I just pick them up to make dog walking more fun, and I'd rather give them to friends. Drop a note next time you're out this way and I'll set you up with a few hundred. And I'll also give you a box to go smack at the range (they'll gladly let you hit anything you collect).

I usually lose 3-5 per round, playing where I usually play in New Jersey or down at my brother's in Bradenton. I used to lose a lot more, up to a dozen a round, but I've gradually gotten better.. I've never gone an entire round with the same ball, but I have gone a round losing only one.

If you really want to lose some golf balls, go to Badlands GC in Las Vegas - lots of gulleys and rocky areas. I went through 5 sleeves in one round there once back when I was first getting back into golf. Arrgghhh.

But look at the bright side, you'll always come home with two.

Mmm can't wait to play golf tomorrow. I typically play 54 holes of golf every Monday in the summer. I am a caddy so I get playing priviledges at a private club. It's great, like a free membership. During those 54 holes of golf I will lose about 10-ish balls.

I've never bought a golf ball in my life. Just found them all on the golf course.

I just picked the game up about 3 years ago and I was loosing about 8-12 balls a round. Now I'm down to maybe 2-3 and on occasion, none.

My favorite time to play is early in the morning. Weather is typically more mild and you beat the mid-day heat. And by the time you get home there's plenty of day left.
