I just watched last king of Scotland with the wife (great movie by the way) and I got thinking about the whole entebbe incident. I remember that every year in elementary school we used to watch "Raid on Entebbe: with Peter Finch and Charles Bronson. I thought it was a great movie and I am hoping for someone to make another updated version. Anyone else watch this and remember it?

Elementary School, wow....
I just got stuck with the "George Attla Story" every year.
In high school we did end up with Tora-Tora-Tora and All Quiet on the Western Front.

The Israelies did a version called "Operation Thunderbolt" Several of the participants played themselves in that one.

I remember the film "Raid on Entebbe" well. At the time of its release the euphoria following the hostages' release and Amin's humiliation was running high and to satisfy the public's hunger three movie versions were planned.
The first to be released was the dreadful "Victory at Entebbe" starring Richard Dreyfuss. The critics hated it and the public stayed away from cinemas at which it was playing.
So bad were the reviews and takings for Victory on Entebbe that a major film distributor in the UK had second thoughts whether "Raid on Entebbe" would ever see a theatrical release in the UK (it was originally made for TV). They gambled and tested the waters at a few UK cinemas. Critics who had previously slated Victory at Entebbe and said they would not watch any other movies based on the event, saw Raid on Entebbe and quickly changed their views, and UK cinema audience reaction was very favourable. Considering that the film included stars like Peter Finch, Charles Bronson, Hurst Buchhloz, Jack Warden, Robert Loggia and Yaphet Kotto (who played Amin despite being Jewish), and was directed by Irvin Kershner, it did show some promise. The only thing that irritated me about "Raid on Entebbe" was the fact that the airline code for the Air France flight was shown as AR!
Back to The Last King of Scotland, there were some goofs in the scene at Entebbe Airport
The hijacked aircraft was an A300, but the hijacked aircraft shown in the film is a single-aisled 727, DC9, or similar and could not carry 248 pax
In the real event hostages departed in an Air France jetliner. In the movie they departed in an old Antonov AN-12BK cargo aircraft
On take-off the Antonov AN-12BK is shown as a jet aircraft
When we see Dr Garringan (James McAvoy) with the other hostages in the Antonov, this propeller plane is making jet-engine sounds

In the real event it was C-130's they flew out on. The Air France A300 was left behind......
