And these are just the scumbags that are using their real names.

Between hearing of this news and watching NBC's "To Catch A Predator" last night, it makes you want to just put these people on an island by themselves.

Registered Sex Offenders have resorted to living under a bridge in Miami because they were booted out of Miami beach because they were withing the specified distance to a school.

I read just recently that 12% of all internet time is spent on MySpace. Also, that there were in excess of 3000 registered paedophiles in the UK with an account.

Where did you read that? That simply can not be true. Got a source?

I wouldn't bet the farm on the . . . many more of those 'creatures' out there than one would suspect. Even some folk you'd never 'suspect'. I was amazed when an Anchorage Police Officer was arrested for Child Porn - involving his own daughter - a year or so ago . . . I'd known the guy 20 years.

. . . . . . .

Good for MySpace . . . finally some responsible management on their part.

I don't think he was in disbelief about the predators on myspace, I think we could all have assumed that, sadly... rather he was shocked about the post that claimed that 12% of all time spent online is on myspace...

Ahhh, my bad. I think you're right . . . .

I don't see 12% is too outlandish though . . . .

I spend 50% of my time right here on Airliners.  silly

I'm in the same boat, if not more. I think I've been to MySpace once or twice. One of my kids lives there. But since I have taught her about what boys want and how to make them think of something else in a hurry, I sleep well.

I think MySpace lawyers finally convinced management that it wouldn't take too many more cases of some kid getting kidnapped or worse becaue of someone they met on their site before the roof would come crashing in. Shame it took even one for it to happen. There is shared responsibility if you ask me when someone provides a service such as MySpace.

Why would they delete them? This is what I would do.
Put a flag on their accounts so that when they chat, contact, or whatever one does on my space, a big red warning comes up saying "Warning, the person who uses this account is a child predator. If you are under 18 and have been contacted by this person call the police." Then their contacts can be traced and we can put some of these scumbags away.
deleting their accounts just ignores the problem and is just laziness on the authorities part.

Why give them anything. Once you have plead or been found guilty of a sex crime, you are done. The only way they can be reformed is by eliminating their need to consume oxygen. These people are made the way they are; they are not born that way. As it is we get a mailer froum the county listing the people that have been branded sexual predators in our neighborhoods.

When you were in town, if you recall, I asked you about your daughter's step dad, if he was involved in arresting the police officer from Chicagoland who had been coming to Iowa to get it on with 10-13 year olds ... both female and males ... whom he had met on myspace.

Quoting Miamiair (Thread starter):

Well, it amazes me that they're even stupid enough in the first place to use their real names, but damn, it just proves that they're just stupid to begin with.

And this is just on myspace. There are tons of other websites out there that people get on, frequent, and traffic.

Yeah, I know . . . disbelief . . . utterly . . . until you see the evidence in the Search Warrant . . . .

Who knew . . . certainly no one that ever worked with the guy. . .

One of my best friends and co-workers was a small time thief who got caught.. Really puts an interesting spin on shift change to see someone led out in handcuffs. I guess they did extend him the courtesy of letting him change clothes before booking.. I wouldn't want to sit in jail in a police uniform.

they always say it is the person you least expect. Because if you expected them to be a pedo or a thief nobody would like them.

Sounds like a reasonable solution, especially because even if MySpace prevents the deleted people from re-registering with the same email address (which I highly doubt they went to the trouble to do), they could easily register with a BS email... It really does do nothing to just delete them and do nothing else.
