Hi guys!

A quick survey because my mobile phone died yesterday, currently I'm using an old phone from my father until I buy a new one. The problem is that I don't know which I should get, I'm thinking about buying a Sony-Ericson W810i because it is not expensive but offers stuff like an mp3 player, a 512MB memory stick, a radio tuner, etc. Anyone has any experience with this phone? What other (not too expensive) phones can you recommend?

Also: My former phone - a Siemens M65 - had this super neato "dynamic light" function, you could directly see if someone called or sent a SMS when you looked on the top of the phone because there were some red LED lights blinking on both sides. Are there other phones with this function?

Thanks in advance for any advise!

Patrick

PS: I had the phone number of many A.netters and I lost them all because me big idiot saved them on the phone's memory stick and not on my SIM card. Feel free to send me a PM so that I can save your number again (on the SIM card this time  Wink ).

None that I know of. Love those LEDs. I also have M65 which is unfortunately getting close to "retirement", few days ago I broke off the plastic thing on the back of the phone that locks the metal frame onto the phone. Siemens used to sell a replacement set with the battery seal, plug for the charger connector and lid on the lens but that's history.
If it wasn't for the crappy battery M65 would be an excellent phone.

Nokia 6300. That's my next phone.

I'm still using my trusty LG VX9800. My upgrade comes due in October, at which point I'll be replacing it with some sort of smartphone.

My missus has one of those. Perhaps it's her carrier, but I find her call volume to be way too low.

I use the RAZR V3xx, sort of a stealthy tech phone. It looks fairly ordinary, but it packs:

-3.6 Mbps HSDPA data, the fastest currently available
-One of, if not the fastest processor in its class
-nVidia GoForce 8400 for full 3D rendering.
-Stellar battery life

And because it's not a new design, they've had a chance to work out the previous problems with hardware & reliability.

Hmm, that's interesting. Does she have a warranty on the phone? Perhaps she should take it to the (Verizon?) store and trade it in for a new one, or get some help. Even though I hate going to to store (I have Sprint), I had to take mine in when a screw fell out that holds the antenna in place, and they were pretty nice about it. Hope the problem gets resolved.

Nobody has complained to me yet. But could be maybe they like that they can't hear me, SIGH.  Embarrassment Big grin

It's a company phone, and the second one she's had. She's only got a couple more weeks though - her company are moving her region to T-Mobile and she'll be getting a T-Mobile Dash.

Hey Sabena

Get the Nokia 6131. It has the a similar function to the one you described on the Siemens phone. Whenever you have a missed call or a text message the outer screens backlight starts blinking. Ive had the phone for about one year now and I couldnt be happier with it.

Regards,
Tom

I have a samsung sgh-a707, which is seemingly their equivalent to the motorola razr. It's my first non hand me down old phone, so I'm blown away by how much it can do, thought it is probably par for the course for everyone else. It takes pretty good 2 megapixel photos, half decent video, plays music and holds 1 gig after I bought a micro SD card, pretty fast 3G web browser... I can't complain, but I think it is only being sold through AT&T unless you get one unlocked.
