Hi all

I was watching a tv programme last night, (news night, with Trevor McDonald, and one news story he read out was that Elton John want's the Internet closed down fo 5 years to see how everyone around the world cope with out it.

Question.

If this did happen, how would you cope without a Internet service for 5 years? and what would you do as a replacement.

for me,it will mean i have to go back to the yellow pages, and the phone book for info, and back to using a type writer.

I can and do cope without the internet for a few weeks every year by choice. Life isn't as convenient in a lot of ways, but it's doable. It's like I haven't had a cell phone for about 3 years now. When I'm out and about, I use a pay phone, and call my voicemail a couple of times a day for messages, and survive just fine without people being able to reach me 24/7.

The biggest thing I notice without the 'net is I use my landline phone a lot more for keeping up with people, and read the newspaper more in depth.

I'm not sure why Sir Elton proposes 5 years though--you'd think sales of his music would plummet, since people would have to physically go buy his CDs, rather than ordering them over the web, or downloading from somewhere like iTunes.

It seems that, for some, forget how we maneged before the Internet arrived, like most things we have now,to make our life easier, but also making us more lazy too.

If the internet was down for five years, I'm not sure what I'd do. I'm sure that I'd be spending alot more time at the airport and stuff like that. But I don't think it's ever going to happen, so we don't have to worry about that.  Smile

It's not our personal responses that matter, its the fact that the world economy would crash and we would all go back to the dark ages.

As it actually said on that programme, would it not be better to shut Elton John down for five years as an experiment to see how we all cope then?

I'd gladly see that crazy old attention whore fool shut down indefinitely. What a tool.

Without going into too much detail, not very well.

News Knight... now that was funny TV.

Last week when they were on about the Tour De France and the Germans wanting to keep it a 'pure race' - Jesus Christ, I couldn't stop laughing.

Shame the series has ended.

Ooohh... I feel giddy just thinking about it. I use my mobile [cell] phone as if it provides oxygen... 30 texts a day... and the internet, it's free [mum pays for it] and therefore, use it waaaaay more. I'd cry if I weren't able to talk to my online friends, haha
