Can you tell why it's fake?

Quote:
An elderly Iraqi woman shows two bullets which she says hit her house following an early coalition forces raid in the predominantly Shiite Baghdad suburb of Sadr City. At least 175 people were slaughtered on Tuesday and more than 200 wounded when four suicide truck bombs targeted people from an ancient religious sect in northern Iraq, officials said.(AFP/Wissam al-Okaili)

wow those bullets that hit her house are pretty well in tact, so much so that they re still in their casing...

She never said they were fired at the house, just that they 'hit' the house - maybe the coalition forces literally threw them at her  Smile

That said, if it was British forces, chances are their SA-80s were all jammed, so that suddenly doesn't seem all that stupid...

The bullets are still attatched to the casings.

I as a soldier know they could not possibly have even been fired, no matter what she says.

I didn't think I would be able to "tell why it's fake" with my nonexistent knowledge of weaponry and ballistics, but those bullets do give the AFP text a very special meaning indeed: "An elderly Iraqi woman shows two bullets which she says hit her house..."

Jolly good sports, aren't they? Don't get put off by something as trivial as a jammed weapon.

But if they a picture like this, it shows what the evil coalition forces are doing to innocent civilians. Oh wait, this was faked? Let's pretend we didn't hear that and run with the story.

They probably paid her some money to hold the bullets, make that face, and let them take a picture.

When a weapon using cased ammunition is fired, the bullet seperates from the case and exits the barrel. The case stays in the chamber of the weapon and is ejected when the action is cycled.

In other words. If those rounds had been fired from a weapon, the bright shiny part at the bottom of the round would no longer be attached to the dull colored part at the top of the round.

I'm pretty sure that any reported stationed in Iraq for more than ten minutes knows that.

It was before I clicked the link that I felt I might not be able to tell.  Wink

I know, I know, but thats less amusing  Wink

I had an interesting time with an SA-80 once, cocked it and the entire backend fell off and the spring shot across the room and out the window. Turns out all the bolts on the back of the rifle sheared off. This was 15 years or so ago now tho  Smile

Eat your heart out Warren Commission! Here is the real magic bullet.

Problem is, her story will become the truth for many.

The sad part... That's not even military issue ammunition. The Photog had to truck around non-military ammunition to give this lady to snap this photo.

Has there not been plenty of samples of this type of news fakery lately?

What bothers me the most is that this type of crap is not really well publicized. It takes a 'right wing website' to come up with them.

The photo is not fake - it IS a photo of a woman with two bullets.

What is fake, is the story.
