I really have no time for this guy. Now he taking shots at Bond...

"Bond is an imperialist and a misogynist who kills people and laughs about it, and drinks Martinis and cracks jokes," he told reporters."

That's why we love Bond you fool!

I'd have said it is because the people making the films don't really take them that seriously, but that's just details.  Silly I'll gladly pay my €7,50 or so to watch the next Bond movie... and the one after that, no matter what some Hollywood "VIP" has to say about it.

The Bond movies have always been about fantasy, about how 1 man can defeat scores of men, never get hit by any of 100's of bullets fired at him, survive 100 G's falls and landings, always get laid by the hottest women just by looking at them and that good can defeat evil. With variations, Bond movies are based on the hero stories that go back for millenniums in human existence.

Exactly why this news has just confirmed what I previously thought... Matt Damon is a plank.

Yeah I don't get it... I find the Bourne films very boring and tedious. They drag on for ages and are still playing over the same lame ass storyline 3 films later!! Whilst the Bond films, for sure the structure is the same... He drinks martinis, kills a few people and gets laid by the hotest women - but thats what we want to see! we don't want to see Matt Damon driving and running around for 2 hours trying for find out what his name really is.

For sure I'm going to see the new one but thats only because some friends have asked me to go with... otherwise I'd give it a miss.

Just because you have an Academy Award, that doesn't make you an expert on cinema you hack. The only good thing about those Bourne films is Julia Stiles (  drool  ).

James Bond is who he is, and that's why we love him.

I think Sean Connery needs to track Matt Damon down and give him a beat down. You insult Bond, you insult the actors who played him (even George Lazenby and Timothy Dalton).

Both the Bourne and Bond movies are excellent but they have different appeals. Damon can say what he wants but Bond is not going anywhere.

And as Connery does it, he comes up with a famous Bond one-liner as he puts Damon's face against the circular saw running on nitrous..

Is that your description of the "Bourne" movies? If you swap Audi for VW, you've got the definition of "Transporter 2" which to my defence I only watched because a good friend had suggested it.

Ohh don't get me started. Dalton was an excellent Bond, much closer to the original character featured in the novels. Underrated in my opinion.

I heard a rumour that the reason he didn't shag as much as the other Bonds was because of the (at the time) news scares regarding the AIDS epedemic.

Maybe a rumour, but makes sense when I remember all the government commercials on TV at the time about AIDS.

Hey, I actually liked Lazenby as Bond, and "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" is my favorite non-Connery Bond films.

T'was good to see Telly Savalas, and Diana Rigg was hot as in that film.

Not my favourite though.

Mine... Let me think.

It's impossible to decide. Even "Octopussy" had its moments, although a lot less of them than, say, "OHMSS".

The latest Bourne picture looks like it was shot exclusively by that kid who OD'ed on coffee.  silly

I liked Dalton too, from an acting perspective, but if you watch some of the interviews with him you'll see how he wanted to make Bond more "human" and made some revisions to the character. In his defence, he wasn't the sole cause - IMO the Bond pictures have been going downhill since Octopussy. For me, the "golden age" of Bond spanned (ironically enough) from "Goldfinger" to "The Man With the Golden Gun."

Quoting Texan (Reply 18):

Lazenby was an Australian model who had to be given acting tips during filming. So really, there was no other possible outcome.  silly

But I will say Bond was close to extinction after,"Die Another Day" disaster and the so-so,"World Is Not Enough" the Bond series needed a bad makeover. The Daniel Craig selection nailed it, and "Casino Royale" getting back to more down to earth, man made stunts, Judi Dench, playing M, finally gave her a true position as the SOB and a great musical score from David Arnold, will allowed the Bond series to continue.
