I'm thinking about buying a Blackberry on Ebay and wanted to know what precautions, other than to make sure I buy an unlocked one, I should take. Are there are any other technical mumbo jumbos I should be aware of? If it matters, my cell phone carrier is AT&T.
If you get if off Ebay, you won't get any kind of warranty (but you know that anyway). We get fliers in the mail here about Radio Shack offering Blackberries, Q's, Blackjacks and Treos all the time, and their prices are pretty decent. I'm not sure what is offered where you are, but if you're sold to buying online, check the other obvious places for something like that (BestBuy, Radio Shack - even the AT&T store online). When it comes to something of that importance in your daily life, it pays to get something with a warranty, a proven seller, etc. Ebay has its perks, but there's some things I still refuse to buy on Ebay.

Just go buy a new one. The ones on Ebay aren't in good condition usually.

Please be careful buying any Blackberry! You'll soon find you can't do without and will be enslaved to it !
I'm in heavy competition with my boyfriend's BlackBerry for his attention, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 'I need it for my business, my clients count on me to be there for them' is the excuse but I don't know, he's always showing me websites with funny articles and cartoons...
So one day I'll tell him: 'either be a slave to your BB or have a girlfriend' because both seems to be impossible
I console myself spending time on a.net of course and going shopping with his credit card, now that the BlackBerry earns him so much money

I bought mine from Ebay, a 7100T. The auction said it was unlocked, but I didn't really find out, because I had put a SIM from T-Mobile UK in it. Apparently US, and UK Tmobile SIMS are pretty much the same, so it worked. When I put a Vodaphone SIM in it, it didn't work. I contacted the seller, and they offered a refund, in the amount of what it costed me to get it unlocked. It still works pretty good, it needs a little contact cleaner sprayed into the wheel though.

A friend of mine bought his Blackberry Curve on ebay and loves it. He had to have the phone unlocked after he received it but the seller sent it to himin the original box and all packaged. It looked like it had never been used.
