I attend the American International School (AIS) in Vienna, Austria. I is known as the most expensive private school in austria and lately the executive board and the director have started to get some f*cked up ideas. Currently, the yearly tuition fee for the school is €15,000. But for next year, the board is going to try to raise the tuition fee by 30% !!!!!!!!! Is it just me or is this the most messed up idea anyone has ever got. It would be outragous if they increased the tuition by 4% but what about 30%. This would bring the yearly tuition fee to €20,000. The board has said that they plan to increase the faculty salary for the next years and then they will invest €500,000 in the renovation of the school for the next year. C´mon, the school was renovated almost entirely during the summer. Then they want to introduce a financial aid plan for the people who pay for the school out of their own pockets. This plan will reduce the yearly tuition fee by 15% but it will still raise the yearly fee by 15% so that won´t help them. Money will also be invested in other parts but I won´t bore you with those.
How can this board which is obviously filled with idiots even think about raising the tuition price a single percent during this global economic situation. If this proposal is passed tomorrow at the general assembly, I can assure you that at least 150 of the about 700 people which are currently enrolled will leave the school next year.
What are your reactions to this plan?
I say that the entire board shall RESIGN.

I go to a private boarding school that costs ** a year. If you don't want to pay then go.

I put stars in the price because i feel as if you want to know, then you should, but no need to shot it out.

The ASD,(American School of Dubai), charges about the same amount of money. However most of the americans don't pay. Why not? Well because lots of the americans, living in Dubai, are hired by the petroleum company DP. DP, in fact, was responsible for the ASD being built. So education is free for them. Other companies pay for the education of their employee's children too!

Are there many americans in your school in Vienna?

>>€500,000 in the renovation of the school for the next year.<<

That much to renovate a school that educates 700 people? That is way too little.

You have a right to see their accounting books, so just ask them for that.

174thfwff: I go to this school because I have been going to it since I was five years old and now I´m 17. If you don´t think that increasing the yearly tuition by 30%/€5K is much, then what do you think is much? Also, would you like to know how to speak german at the age of 5 as a second language? I would have to do that if I went to a public school. I think that english was a better choice.

Marco: there are about 300 americans going to our school which all get 90% of the tuition fee paid by the embassy. Then there are other people from different nations whose parents work at embassy´s or different firms. I´d say that about 15-20% of the people that go to the school pays out of their own pockets.

PanAm747: €500K is pretty much considering that the school was renovated for more than €11 million during the summer of 2000.
