So The past two nights I have been attending DAVE MATTHEWS BAND CONCERTS, and I finally have gotten over the excitement of last night to post....Gainsville sucked, from the venue to the set list, dont get me wrong it was nice to hear a few new songs

Seek Up *
Dream Girl *
Corn Bread *
Say Goodbye
Eh Hee *
You Might Die Trying *
Louisiana Bayou *
A Dream So Real *
Crush *
The Idea Of You *
Grey Street *
Loving Wings *
Where Are You Going
#27 *
Tripping Billies *
Everyday *
Ants Marching *

CornBread, Saygoodbye, eh hee, Ants marching and everdays were the highlughts in my eyes. Although loving wings always seems to bring a tear or two to my eyes. But the venue sucked, the acustics sucked, being in doors sucked...So i went home content finally getting to hear cornbread for the first time ever live, and i can't believe after almost 10 years they are finally playing it again.....

Now DMB at TPA ROCKED...I have attented every show DMB has had in tampa including the St pete times fourm show. But dang, this show rocked, the intro A dream so real was a bad choice IMO because no one but myself and like 1 other person and dave knew the lyrics, and Its a real hard song to get into. Anyways here is the set list

A Dream So Real *
Two Step *
Satellite *
#27 *
You Might Die Trying *
Dream Girl *
Lie In Our Graves *
Eh Hee *
Lie In Our Graves [reprise] *
Anyone Seen The Bridge *
Too Much *
Louisiana Bayou *
Crash Into Me *
Corn Bread *
Dreaming Tree *
Warehouse *
Tripping Billies *

__________________

Stay (Wasting Time) *

Once Lie In our graces played the concert picked up speed...boyd's solo in LIOG was killer, I had one of those musical moments....After boyds jam butch ended the song with a slow fade off, pause then right into Eh Hee, I was furious, wtf where was did the end of lie in our graves go, so after a few of us complained , sure enough after a killer run of eh hee LIOG reprise, and it rocked.

But the highlight was totally anyone seen the bridge into to much. This was the first time i was able to hear this without So much To Say being played first...it was weird, but damn, DMB just held a note short but powerful, then pause, 30 seconds later BAM..BAM, then 30 seconds later BAM BAM BAM BAM, then it kicked straight into anyone seen the bridge, and i freaked out, never heard it played this way, and Too much had a killer half time section put right in the middle, it was as if dave was going off onto another song, and with the way LIOG was played i was ready for this to happen. CornBread was better in Gainsville...And a dream of mine to hear Dreaming Tree Live happened, It was beautiful with the lighnining and thunder in the background, and leroi's solo, oo man.....And of course Stay, always a crowd fave, and always gets every person dancing....Only if tampa didnt have a 11pm curfew for the the Ford Amp I am sure the encore would have been tons better....

Anyways west palm Friday and Sat. I booked a hotel and I am ready. I lost my voice, to dave...lol...it was awsome

Lets hear your DMB experiences!

anyone a warhouse member, or part of antsmarching, dancingnancies, or any fan sites?
Your fave song or album?

Funny that these guys are still around....

I remember seeing DMB when I was attending GWU at Lisner Auditorium in 1994 or 1995 (hazy memory)...I heard they were on campus and my friend Matt Boer and I went with our bongos and banged away outside at 21st and H Street and the tour manager came out and gave us front row seats.....he also gave us, *ahem*, some party favors....and some back stage passes.....

Those were the days....

Though the last time I saw them was when they opened up for the Grateful Dead in May of 1995 at the Silver Bowl in LAS...

Your fave song or album?

Song: I'll Back You Up/Halloween/Typical Situation
Album: BTCS

As for the tour this year, to be honest, apart from the M.G.M Grand shows, this tour has been shit. No variety this year. Quit fucking playing Dreamgirl, Too Much, Everyday, and Stay should not be in a encore spot etc etc.!!

I fly out to Los Angeles for the last 2 nights of the tour and to be honest, I am not expecting a stellar setlist either night.

about cornbread, the band has had this song for about 10 years, and it was a consideration to rework with lillwhite, but it obviously never made it. They have played it here and there, but since crash it hasnt been heard. I have a biography of DMB i did a research paper on, Let me pull it out and quote the author and attach a link to verify this for you, since thats the way a.net works....

Personally I do not like the song Too much, it kinda worse itself out in my book a few years back, but I was taken back this year when, yet again too much was played in TPA, i really got into it.

Yeah I havent been completely happy with the concerts this year, but i love the sound and atmosphere of the concerts, so it wasnt a big deal, I just hope i get to hear some new stuff in west palm, or maybe joyride....whatever we will see....

Glad to see i am not alone on a.net

Does he still do the acoustic gigs with Tim Reynolds?

I saw him in 1997 at the State Theater in Easton, PA (Lafayette College).

I've seen a ton of shows, including the Dead, Pink Floyd, The Allmans, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan and a host of other legends, and I have to say, acoustic Dave and Tim was the most impressive thing I've ever seen live.

Anybody know if that tour will come back to the Northeast?

Thanks,

EasternSon

One, back when "So Much to Say" was first released and got effed out. It was good the first 10 times I heard it and then when it got airplay every hour on the hour it became annoying. I saw them live and was honeslty unimpressed and stay that way to this day.

I'm not the biggest fan in the world, I like some of their stuff, but I'll say this:

Carter Beauford is one of the best drummers I have ever heard or seen live:

His 'Under the Table & Drumming' DVD is inspirational.

Well, I missed him this summer because I refuse to go to camden to see him. Saw him last year at randalls island and they tore the roof down. Warren Haynes came out for cortez the killer and a little later on they were joined onstage by bela fleck and the flecktones and did #41 ( which is hands down my favorite song EVER) . Also, I just got live at radio city from dave and tim. If you dont have it, i strongly suggest getting a copy...it"ll blow your mind.

Again No

Negative. The song was written by Dave and Mark Batson who was the producer of the Stand Up album. Batson never had any contact with the band previously before Stand Up.

Lets look at Don't Drink The Water for a moment. It evolved out of what was known as Leave Me Praying/Weight of the World

In 1996, Weight of the World was played 2 times.

http://www.dmbalmanac.com/SongStats.aspx?sid=171

In 1997, the title was changed to Leave me Praying and played 28 times

http://www.dmbalmanac.com/SongStats.aspx?sid=167

Finally evolving into Don't Drink The Water in 1998 where it has been played 422 times since 1998.

http://www.dmbalmanac.com/SongStats.aspx?sid=49

Now Cornbread, once again look, it did not evolve from anything previously

Music For The People: Dave Matthews Band (2004 edition)
by: Nevin Martell
pg 134
second paragraph 4th line down....

This chapter called Lilly White Sessions, talks about the issues the band was having with Steve Lillywhite, and how the album leaked to fans so eventually the band recognized it as The Lillywhite Sessions, but never officially released the album. Cornbread, was written by Dave Matthews but was never recorded by the band.

yes this is correct as well, the song was reworked also noted by both the Music for the people, and Wikipedia. but again never made the album cut.

I apoligize I dont know how else to prove the book to you, If you know of some other way i can share this source, let me know I would be happy to do so.

Look on the dvd insert of Radio City it says that Cornbread was co-written with Mark Batson. So whatever Dave wrote back 10 years ago is not in any relation to what Cornbread is now.

By all means, I ask you to pose your question onto Antsmarching.org

My boss and his son went to the DMB/Allman Brothers show last Saturday at Piedmont Park here in Atlanta. He'd never really heard DMB before that night (He was there to see the Allman Brothers, his son wanted to see DMB), and was really impressed with DMB. Image 50,000 folks in an urban park and the vast majority of that crowd took public transportation.

I saw DMB back in December of 1995 at the old Omni here in Atlanta. One of my buddies had tickets and had someone bail on him at the last minute. While I've never been much into DMB, I thought I go since it was a free ticket. Wasn't a bad show, either.

I posted the question in that particular thread, my user name is ffis34...If i dont get a response soon i will make a new thread with the question. I am confident though, that this song was played, by dave many years ago. I cant recall where, but i think i remember listening to one of my friends cassette recordings of cornbread from a club in VA, but I know for a fact the Book Music For the People talks about the song cornbread and its introdution to the band and that dave wrote it. No idea if he meant it as a solo or for the band. Cornbread is also brought up again when the book talks about the making of Stand Up.....That years after though.....Anyways hopefully some DMB fans on antsmarching will settle this battle
