Whoa! I received an email today from the company responsible for Britain's best men's groomers/barbers (thats what happens when you read FHM...).

I have to admit, I haven't yet joined the men's grooming fraternity, but I think I fancy some of the treatments on offer at this place! The massages sound very relaxing!

Bit on the expensive side, bit poncy, but I haven't had a massage for ages......

Check it out at http://www.the-refinery.com

No, before you all start, I'm not suffering an 'identity crisis'....it's just time we asserted our need to be treated gently by women!  Laugh out loud

Regards

There was a story recently in the USAToday regarding a surge in men's grooming facilities. A men's spa in NYC was profiled, and the reporter who wrote the story discussed his experiences and treatments at the spa, including manicures/pedicures, massages (including foot massages), "spare tire" wraps, etc. He thoroughly enjoyed the experience and agreed it's pretty spendy, but he's worth it. Made me want to check it out.

Actually, I go about once a month..primarily for a massage--after golf. But also because they will trim your hair and give you a manicure and a facial (I'm a nut about my skin). I never tried any of the other stuff (with mud, etc).
I cost about 200 for the two hours..which I guess is normal?
I gave away a few hours of this as Xmas presents to other law partners.

P.S. It's a great way for attorney's to network. There were FIVE of us in there.

Do you think the stuff they sell for shaving cream, lotion, etc. is any better than store bought stuff?

A while ago I got some free samples of men's facial scrub and after shave lotion in the mail. I used them and was actually quite impressed, so I went to the store to buy a bottle or two. But after seeing the prices I almost went into cardiac arrest! One teeny tiny bottle of facial scrub was over 10 Euros! I left as quickly as I came in.

I think the only reason men have become marketing targets nowadays is because they know we usually have higher incomes and are for the most part clueless.

I like the "Penis Beauty Cream" that I buy at the spa. I rub it onto my johnson once a day, for about 2-3 minutes (sometimes faster, sometimes slower). It makes the skin soOOO soft!

Is this really necessary?
I am a woman and I could care less about any of this crap. I feel sorry for any guy who needs to go through this in hopes of finding the right girl.

I care about my skin, nails, and hair because I care about my appearance and the impression I make with others. This is the same reason I go to the gym 4x week and eat right. I wouldn't bother getting to know anybody..man or woman..who doesn't.

Regarding your question about the relative efficacy of spa products vs. mass-market products:

Through my own personal research and ancillary anecdotal evidence, I believe the answer is: sometimes yes, sometimes no.

In general, I think hair care products are pretty much the same. However, I think there is a bigger difference when it comes to skin care products.

And yes, $200 isn't unreasonable at all for two hours of massage, including manicure and facial.

BTW, have you tried Mary Kay's men's skincare line? My sister-in-law sells it. I like the facial bar, cooling toner and skin conditioner.

Reading Brett Easton Ellis's 'American Psycho' at the moment - fantastic - but the character, Patrick Bateman, has facials all the time - and we're talking 80s here!
