a FG with no time left beats the Sooners 27-24. Biggest upset of the day.

Seeing the Oklahoma fans crying, and Stoops in disbelief was great.

Nice Job Buffs.

It is official--Texas now has lost to Kansas State 41-21. I think this will make the Red River Shootout next week in the Cotton Bowl even more interesting now. Both Texas and Oklahoma had high hopes for this season and now will face each other coming off of unexpected losses.

Congrats to CU, my alma mater. I wish I had been in Boulder today.

We totally sucked today, but it was a needed test. It exposed a lot of issues that would have come out next week against Texas. Objective one is beat Texas...then game by game for the rest of the season. Winning the Big 12 South is still and option, so is the Big 12...anything beyond that, depends on how things shake out with other Top 10 teams having problems.

Texas losing, West Virginia losing...will create some movement. Down the road, either OU or Texas will be eliminated next week...LSU or Florida will take a loss next week, Cal or USC will have a loss, and so on. Lot of football left to play.

Grats to the Buffs...well hard fault victory and definitely a needed one. The Big 12 North has been sucking it up for too long, its nice to get some balance in the conference again.

Woo thank you CU! Nothing was more fun than 40000 or so students screaming "OU SUCKS!!" during the pouring rain right as the 2nd half was kickin up (we were still in it at this point lol). But yea, it's much easier to lose when OU and A&M have already lost =)

p.s. Colt McCoy is a bitch. I haven't heard UT fans boo a quarterback like that since Mr. Simms

Anyways, congrats CU!

Can you imagine how bad the Oregon receiver must feel, dropping the ball on the 1. It was an exciting last drive for Oregon, needed 67 yds and got 66.

Ok, here's the full game report...this was also the homecoming game for CU, which made the win even sweeter!!

Pregame:

Got to Folsom Field about an hour before kickoff...a lot of OU fans were in the stadium and most of my fellow Buff fans had yet to arrive...this is pretty typical here, its not out of the norm for the student section to be half empty at kickoff...the OU fans were very vocal and loud during warmups, while my fellow CU fans that were in the stadium were quieter than usual...I had hoped that with this being a fairly big game, maybe Buff fans would show up on time and give the appearance that they really gave a shit about the game, but twas not to be...certainly something of a bad omen at the beginning....

Pregame edge: OU

OU section filling up before the game...

Pregame chat between Hawk and Bob Stoops
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v300/BuffsandEagles/CIMG3217.jpg?t=1191115296

First quarter:
As usual, our offense got off to a somewhat slow start and didnt score in the first, but this was balanced out by our defense doing a damn good job against the vaunted Sooner offense...OU did manage a touchdown in the first, but that was mainly due to Cody Hawkins throwing an interception (not his fault, the receiver tipped the ball right to an OU defender) and OU returning it deep into CU territory...I wasn't too sure if I should read too much into the first quarter, as OU also seems to be prone to suffering from slow starts, but regardless, I was happy to see us stay competitive right from the start...

First quarter edge: OU

Second quarter: Early in the quarter, we had a very nice drive resulting in a long touchdown run by Hugh Charles, but OU answered right back and scored a touchdown of their own to make the score 14-7...that second touchdown of theirs was scored so quickly and efficiently that I feared that the OU offense was finally waking up and starting to kick into high gear...this fear only gained steam as on OU's next drive they managed to stage a 70+ yard drive resulting in a field goal near the end of the half...was the rout on?

Second quarter edge: OU

Third quarter: On our first possession of the third quarter, Cody Hawkins threw another pick, just like the first where the receiver tipped it to an OU defender who took it deep into CU territory...OU quickly capitalized and scored a touchdown to make the score 24-7...at that point, I was sure the rout was on, and you could feel the hope of an upset leave the stadium...it seemed like we were destined to be OU's fourth blowout victim...however, later in the quarter we were able to tack on a field goal from Kevin Eberhart to make it 24-10, and then on OU's ensuing possession, Sam Bradford threw an interception to CU safety Ryan Walters...CU's offense then marched up the field, and had goal-to-go when the quarter ended...clearly, by the end of the quarter the game's momentum had shifted to CU, but was it too late?

Third quarter edge: Even

Fourth quarter: This was one of the most bizarre quarters of football I have ever watched...to sum it up, it felt like OU was doing everything in their power to give the game to us...they had a huge collapse mentally, and their on-field performance took a dive....here's the gritty details:

CU started out the quarter by finishing their drive for a touchdown to make the score 24-17...OU's ensuing possession went nowheres and they punted...CU then drove up the field into field goal range but Eberhart missed a 36 yarder wide left, leading to frustration from many fans over his performance this year, which has been marginal at best...we sure miss Mason Crosby!

On OU's first play after the missed FG, Bradford threw another pick, where CU safety Daniel Dykes and the OU receiver both caught the ball in the air and wrestled for it down to the ground...after a tense wait, the refs ruled it an interception and replay confirmed the call...CU's drive after the interception went nowheres, but on the punt, the OU returner Reggie Smith let the ball go right through his hands, and CU recovered deep in OU territory..2 plays later Hawkins found senior WR Dusty Sprague wide open in the end zone for a touchdown, and the game was tied! The energy in the stands at this point was electric..in my 5 football seasons at CU, never have I seen a crowd this alive at a game, it was unbelievable (and I was enjoying every second of it!)

OU's possession after the touchdown was a 3 and out featuring a controversial pass for a first down that was overturned on review, so OU punted, and our small but elusive punt returner, Chase McBride, brought the ball out to midfield on what would be the final possession of the game...Hawkins led the offense down to the OU 28, and with 2 seconds left, this happened:

Fourth quarter edge: CU (duh!)

GAME OVER!!! Final score:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v300/BuffsandEagles/CIMG3248.jpg?t=1191117659

Postgame: Rushing the field, of course! I am definitely in the pro-"rush the field after a big win" camp, so I had a good time celebrating on the field after the game with my fellow students and the team...I was wired on adrenaline like no other, perhaps the biggest rush of my life, it was simply insane...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v300/BuffsandEagles/CIMG3249.jpg?t=1191117691

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v300/BuffsandEagles/CIMG3285.jpg?t=1191117725

Of course, I had to commemorate the event somehow, so I swiped some of the Folsom Field turf while on the field as a keepsake...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v300/BuffsandEagles/CIMG3298.jpg?t=1191117789

Final thoughts: Honestly, going into this game I thought we had little chance to win, given what OU had done to its first 4 opponents...Defensively, I figured we would keep it relatively close and hold them to maybe 30-35 points, but I was not sure our offense would be able to perform against the OU defense, but they came through when it counted...once again, even though we won, Im a bit frustrated by Hawk's playcalling...its a bit predictable and uninspiring, but as long as we keep winning, I'll keep my grumbles on that topic to a minimum...our defense is surely one of the most underrated in the country...the outlook for the Buffs now is very good, this was a HUGE way to open the conference season, and we have what should be an easy game next week @ Baylor ahead, followed by an intriguing matchup @ Kansas State which will certainly have division title implications since the Big 12 North is wide-open...no clear favorite, any team (with the possible exception of Iowa State) could win it...GO BUFFS!

Cal could seriously move up.

Beating Oregon in Oregon is a tough task, and they did it for the first time in 20 years.

Should be a good one in Strawberry Canyon in November when USC comes to town.

Upset Weekend in College Football! Wow!

#3 Oklahoma bites the dust.
#4 Flordia loses-again-to Auburn
#5 West Virgina lost Friday to South Florida
#7 Texas goes down. Longhorns coulda lost a few others.
#10 Rutgers had their bubble burst by Maryland.

Looking at all that, the Top 5 next week should be

1. USC
2. LSU (gaining ground)
3. Cal
4. Ohio State (who, unlike 'SC, easily beat Washington)
5. Wisconsin

And everyone thought this would be a "down" year for the Buckeyes. Their defense looks as tough as ever, and the offense is scoring more than enough points. Love to piss off all the OSU haters on here, and see them run the table again in the regular season. Big grin

Plus, my beloved Bowling Green Falcons beat that team from Bowling Green...Kentucky, that is, easliy beating Western Kentucky. I think the next game on their schedule, without looking is at Boston College, who struggled against UMass today.

Yeah, I really hate losing to Auburn. I'll say this though...it is always a good game right to the end every time these two teams play.

It is going to be a wild year in college football. Florida won't repeat given our young players, OSU will drop a game, and I think we'll be seeing a couple of 1 loss and maybe even a 2 loss team playing for the national title. It is still Southern Cal's to lose in my opinion.

Without a doubt LSU should be number one after USC almost losing to an unranked team.

1. LSU (defeated two ranked team)
2. CAL (defeated two ranked teams)
3. USC (One defeate of a weak ranked team)
4. Ohio State
5. Wisconsin

I agree, after watching the Duck game, through the almost tears (I mean come on, how could you not be if your a Duck fan, we make it all the way to the 5 in that fast, desperate to win, then we screw it up on the 1 yd line, game over), I was thinking about that. Auburn shut out Florida during the first half for the first time in the Swamp since 1992. That's a big deal. Not to mention the kicker had to kick a 43 yard field goal twice to win the game.

In other news, Steve Spurrier clinched his 100th SEC win this week thanks to a blocked MSU punt. He's 100-25 in SEC play.

If anyone deserved to keep the top spot, it would be the defending national champion - you are number 1 til you are knocked off. Of course that doesn't apply anymore, and hasn't been done all season. However, every year the supporters of the defending champ will always argue that they are #1 until beaten and then don't care if someone else gets the shaft especially for the benefit of their team.  Smile

Anyway...some decent movement. Oklahoma and Florida hold on to their top 10 spots. Most of the unbeatens have moved into the top spots except for Arizona St, Hawaii, Purdue, Missouri, Cincy, UConn, and Kansas. It will be interesting to see how many of these can win out...obviously only 2 of the remaining unbeatens don't play another, so the list will shrink quick.

Head-to-head play...I see these coming out with wins: LSU (over UK), CAL (over USC), Wisc (over OSU), USF (over Cincy and UConn), Mizzou (over KU)...BC and Hawaii don't play any others, everyone else would have a lost to another on the list. So the rest of the season will be interesting...

LSU - trip up potential with Florida or at Bama.
CAL - ASU looks like the only danger to run the table, if they take out USC.
Wisc - Illinois may be a bit of a test and the trip to Happy Valley.
BC - Lot of potential bumps if teams come together at the end...VT, FSU, Maryland, Miami.
South Florida - Louisville and Rutgers are the ones that stand out, but what happens if they run the table?
MIssouri - Rough schedule being in Norman, Boulder, and Manhatten - if OU performs well in Dallas next week, they'll lose in Norman otherwise Boulder would be it.
Hawaii - Umm...I guess Boise State or Washington, they'll crush the rest.

So out of those I would guess Hawaii for sure, LSU and CAL as the others to win out.
