Why Does Darfur Get All The Attention?

The (mostly over) war in the Congo was much more devastating than Darfur, and various factions are still very close to jumping back into it. In fact there's been renewed fighting in the Northeast in North Kivu:

http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5gEV0FQ4QDqkKpXMn7yhRrtGajw9Q
"Government forces have been fighting followers of renegade general, Laurent Nkunda, who claims that his aim is to defend the minority Congolese Tutsis of the east from other population groups and armed movements, around Karuba"
http://www.jeuneafrique.com/jeune_af...e.asp?art_cle=AFP03727lescoslivic0

But why does Darfur get all the attention? Both certainly deserve notice, but I don't see why the Sudan has become a cause celebre while the much more disastrous Congo can't get any press, let alone a movie star.

I think Bono thinks it is fun to say.

Also, they must have a decent landing strip for his private jet so he has someplace to land when hes visiting to "gain awareness" before begging all of us to give him money to take there.

You would be surprised how close that is to the truth.

I wonder the same thing about breast cancer. What about all the other cancers, and all the little kids who have no hope because there is little funding? Oh wait, because the money is in adult oncology, not pediatric.

Maybe Darfur is on the money train so they are going to ride it until they no longer can. Love the way the world works. Go where the money is!  ashamed

I was wondering that as well, but I can kinda understand how breast outstrips colo-rectal cancer for awareness. Same with prostate...
