Time to go back to the planning for the 2008 A.net LAS Meet (Put on the back burner for the benefit of those attending the BHM Shootout). Here's the previous thread on the Meet:

2008 A.net LAS Meet PT. 1: Shuffle Up And Deal....... (by Goldenshield Sep 5 2007 in Non Aviation)

The all important info:

Dates: April 4-6, 2008

The heart of the Meet is April 4th and 5th, but some folks will be getting there on the 3rd, and some folks will be staying until the 7th (or later). There will probably be some stuff thrown together for the evening of the 3rd and for the 6th, but most of that won't get started until we have an idea of what dates the attendees will be there for.

Here's THE LIST, as of 9/15/07 (with a few updates):

I'm There

AAFLT1871 Arrive 4/4 Depart 4/8 MGM Grand
ANCFlyer and Mrs. ANCFlyer
AndesSMF (Saturday Only)
BCAInfoSys & maybe the-soon-to-be Mrs. BCAInfoSys
BMIFlyer
DL021
Go3Team + 1?
RJDxer and Mrs. RJDxer
Srbmod Arrive 4/3 Depart 4/7 Flamingo

Working on it:

Goldenshield
N1120A
Sunshine79
USAFHummer (not available Sunday)

I'm A Wuss And Can't Possibly Make It......  duck

To Be Determined (This list will get at least one person on it, it's a sure bet.)

We'll continue to update THE LIST as needed (Dates, hotels, flights, etc).

Activities:

4/3: Trek to Downtown Vegas that night for those of us getting there Thursday?
4/4: TBD The main gathering for that day will be in the evening, but some of us in town end up getting together during the day.
4/5: TBD
4/6: Those of us still in town go casino hopping?
4/7: If you've not left town by now, you're on your own.......

Now's a good time to rehash some of the activities of the previous two LAS Meets.

Hoover Dam
LAS Spotting (Oh look a Southwest 737  duck  Wink
Railroad Museum in Boulder City
Firing machine guns @ The Gun Store
General loitering
Gambling
Drinking
Debauchery
Mooning Bachelorette parties (That was the soon-to-be hitched BCAInfoSys there....)
George Wallace show @ The Flamingo
Fremont Street Experience

In addition to the gambling, drinking, debauchery and general loitering, I'm definitely up for another trip to the Gun Store and possibly the Railroad Museum again (if enough people want to go there).

It was mentioned in a post-2007 Meet thread about maybe some of us going to play a round of golf somewhere. A quick check over at the Callaway Golf Center, it's not too expensive to go play their 9 hole course ($30 pp greens fees, $5 pp for cart rental and they rent clubs for $12).

For those who want to walk down (Fuzzy) Memory Lane, or want to get a feel for the LAS Meet, here's all of the threads in regards to the 2007 A.net LAS Meet (Hopefully these won't scare folks from the Meet  duck  Wink:

LAS Meet FAQ:

1. Do I have to be 21 to attend?

While we don't disuade anyone (regardless of age) from attending, be advised that some activities will be in places where there is a strict 21 and up policy (Bars, casinos). Some hotels with casinos even require a person to be over 21 to make a reservation, so hotel choices may be limited.

2. Where's the best place to stay?

The previous two meets, the majority of the group stayed in the middle part of the Strip (Hotels include the Flamingo, Bally's, Bill's, Imperial Palace, Harrah's, Caesars Palace), with most of those staying at the Flamingo, the Imperial Palace, and Harrah's. This was so they would be closer to the meeting up location. Others have stayed further up, down, and away from the Strip based on room rate deals, casino comps, etc. With the Deuce buses running 24/7 along the Strip, nothing is too far. If you've been to Vegas a few times and have a place you like to stay at, go ahead and stay there. If you haven't, here's a few websites to help you out:

Vegas Tripping
Cheapo Vegas
Rate Vegas

3. Where can I get the best room rates?

Much like with airline tickets, you can find deals all over the place. The online travel sites can get you some good rates, but many hotels (like many airlines) have "lowest price" guarantees on their online rates. A good way to get deals from the hotels is to sign up for their email offers. You can get room rate deals that beat what they offer to the general public.

4. What if I don't like to gamble?

Not a problem. Some of the attendees that aren't too big on gambling end up hanging out and doing stuff or also watch the ones that do gamble hard at work (Hey, it is entertaining to watch myself and ANCFlyer at the Blackjack table, especially when the hands we're getting dealt are horrible.). Plus there will be times when the folks that do gamble want to take a break and do something.

Any other questions you may have, don't hesistate to ask, as there are some of us attending that are Vegas Veterans.

Room Rates:

I will start posting these every Sunday until everyone that is attending has got their lodgings squared away.

The only ways I won't be there are as followed:

1. I'm dead
2. I'm so sick that I can't get out of bed.
3. I'm in jail.
4. I've changed jobs and can't get days off to go.

I really don't anticipate any of those things happening, but you never can tell.

I'll let you know in a little more than a month, as I'm out there next month for a few days. I haven't heard anything off of the Las Vegas sites I frequent, so I'd guess the answer is yes it's still there. With Harrah's being taken private, most of the future plans Harrah's had for their swath of the Strip got put on the shelf. The only thing they've announced is a 20,000 seat arena to be built behind Bally's. I would also guess that other than some renovations (hopefully they'll get the proper permits for them), most of their holdings will not be torn down (Although I have been hearing rumblings that Bill's [Formerly the Barbary Coast] could be closed before the year is out.).

My wife was out there a couple of weeks ago and said that O'Sheas was still there but that the Barbary Coast had changed names to Bill's Gambling Hall.

Barbary Coast had changed names and switched ownership right before this year's Meet. Part of the reason why I moved to Harrah's from Barbary Coast (this was prior to the name change and the takeover by Harrah's [They've got some of the Imperial Palace's management running the place]) was that there were rumors that Harrah's was going to shutter the place as soon as they acquired it from Boyd Gaming.

Might as well put me on the "I'm working on it" list--I don't think I can give a "for sure" answer this far ahead.

I was wondering, though... might there be any interest in the downtown area? Kind of a "Vegas Retro" theme?

We actually did have a bit of "Old Vegas" theme this last time around. Myself, Pep, Go3Team, BMIFlyer, RJdxer, and Mrs. RJdxer went Downtown Thursday night, and the group ended up down there Saturday night as well for some drinking, gambling, and dinner at the buffet @ Main Street Station.

We talked about this at the LAX meet and I'm all for it. Everything is closer and you don't end up walking forever to get from one casino to another. The prices are cheaper and for those that are inclined, the titty bar is right there. I'm all for a meet centered around downtown. I'm much happier there than out on the strip.

I've never liked the buffet setting. Too many times, people are getting up and go get food, or eating, and no one really talks.
