Quoting Gkirk (Reply 2): They'll only ever be 1 Captain Kirk...
I disagree. Its the man himself: William Shatner. It will forever be!
Whats the subtitle of this movie? Star Trek: ?????

Personally I wish Star Trek 2008 as it is dubbed now, would have go forward and embraced the characters from Voyager and DS9. Granted Sisko and Janeway won't be captains...but I really enjoyed Kate Mulgrew and the others with Voyager. I can't stand this need lately to go back to the beginning with Star Trek. Star Wars it did okay...because people really wanted to see the story of Darth Vader completed. However, the TV series Enterprise bombed and this movie will probably do the same. Heck I would have loved to see what a cinema version of the Dominion War would have been like.

I, too, would like to see a movie with the DS9 or Voyager cast. The problem with the Voyager crew, though, is that the series had a finite ending with Voyager returning home and the crew going their separate ways. I suppose it's plausible to reassemble the cast for a movie storyline, but it could seem out of place.
DS9 could be more feasible, but that series' cast also parted ways at the end.
The TNG movies were the easiest because the series ended with an "open door" of sorts with the cast remaining together, and the Enterprise continuing on its voyages.
I suppose they could produce a movie with the later casts, but who knows how they'd pull it off.
In the meantime, there's alot of space between the prequels of 'Enterprise' and the original series they can fill in.
I'd take the awe of understanding over the awe of ignorance any day.

Why don't they just do a series (and/or movies) with the Star Trek UNIVERSE? I mean it wouldn't lock them into to any one actor or group of actors being "beloved" by the fans, the universe is already built and has a TON of stories that could be written. You could have story arcs across the spectrum, from Human to any number of non-human-Starfleet story lines, to Klingon, Romulan, and even Borg or Species 8472 ones. As time goes you could (and would) focus on the crew(s) and themes that the fans respond best too. A series could span time - follow a theme/story arc where we follow an event and its effects across time, from beginning to end so to speak. It could focus on a certain in area of the universe and the events that happen within it - much like the DS9 stuff but on a much shorter scale. it could focus on the events of a ship or crew - much like the "normal" series does/did. Really the possibilities are endless and it allows the production team to break things up, keep the stories fresh, and focus where the fans/viewership are. The same obviously could be done with movies but generally you need something the fans are familiar with to bring them in en masse.

The problems are not in the casting or in the storylines. The problem is the atrocious and still declining script quality in recent years. Kick the current writers out the door and hire a few good ones and the rest will almost take care of itself.

Quoting Moo (Reply 10): There is an attempt to get either a film or a series produced based around William Rikers command of the USS Titan.
I'm in favor of that if Jonathan Frakes continues to be Rikers.

Sisko would be difficult because he's with the Bajoran Prophets and who knows if he'll come back. As for Janeway, she's a Vice Admiral now, so if Voyager appears in a film, it would be likely with Chakotay in command on a mission from Janeway (unless she goes Kirk on Voyager, like he did with the Enterprise when he was admiral).

And for the films, bring back Nicholas Meyer!

I wonder if they do make a film or show with the USS Titan, how the crew will be. From non-canon publications, Tuvok could be joining Riker's crew, Troi would be diplomatic officer on board, and even Wesley Crusher could go on to the Titan in Engineering. The Crusher part is from a cut-out scene from Star Trek Nemesis, where he chatted with Picard about all of this, but I don't know if it's canon, given that it was cut out and that originally Crusher was to be with the Traveller. You know what could give another TNG/DS9/VOY based film a nice twist: if John de Lancie could make a return as Q.

At the moment, it doesn't have one (unless the producers are keeping it a secret). Its full title may well be Star Trek when it comes out.

Done. The production team behind the new movie is pretty much all new people. Many have worked with J.J. Abrams on various projects in the past.

There was also one for Hikaru Sulu's USS Excelsior.

Yeah...I was trying to point to that...the way the stories ended they both wouldn't be in their old positions anymore. Personally, I would rather have Janeway as the cut throat, aggressive, umm bitchy...spicy...Vice Admiral that we would all love. It would also be nice to see Jeri Ryan in some sort of command or high level position.

I am a huge Voyager fan, and I too wish they would embrace them more. Kate Mulgrew "broke the glass ceiling" when it came to Star Trek as she was really the first front and center Female captain of a starship (although in TNG especially, there were a couple episodes that made reference to other female captains.)
It would be interesting to see if they would create a Cmdr. Chakotay - 7 of 9 storyline. It would be really cool if the story had 7 join starfleet.
Seeing the Voyager cast come back having Janeway as an Admiral, Chakotay, Tovak and Harry as Captains with Tom and Torres mixed in would be awesome.
Voyager is my most favorite version of ST, but TNG is very close.
