Wow..this must be the most bizarre story ever! Sort of like the Planet of the Apes...

The deputy mayor of the Indian capital Delhi died on Sunday after being attacked by a horde of wild monkeys.

Story here:

Wow, I'm speechless, I guess only in India, where even wild animals can be spotted just outside the city, for example Mumbai's problem with Leopards, and the ever present Monkey populations, many thing that Monkey's are harmless creatures, but they're still WILD animals.

from the article "Culling [ie killing them] is seen as unacceptable to devout Hindus, who revere the monkeys as a manifestation of the monkey god Hanuman, and often feed them bananas and peanuts"

No way! Not when they can...

Mayor Quimby: For decimating our pigeon population, and making Springfield a less
oppressive place to while away our worthless lives, I present you with
this scented candle.

Skinner: Well, I was wrong. The lizards are a godsend.

Lisa: But isn't that a bit short-sighted? What happens when we're
overrun by lizards?

Skinner: No problem. We simply release wave after wave of Chinese
needle snakes. They'll wipe out the lizards.

Lisa: But aren't the snakes even worse?

Skinner: Yes, but we're prepared for that. We've lined up a fabulous
type of gorilla that thrives on snake meat.

Lisa: But then we're stuck with gorillas!

Skinner: No, that's the beautiful part. When wintertime rolls around,
the gorillas simply freeze to death.

The problem is that the monkey first lost their fear of humans and that, due to food given to them, they expect that any human should give them food as well. If they do not receive the food, they become very agressive (just think about the Black Bears in the US national parks).
These monkeys also have strong teeth and can bite.

You've obviously not gone to India. The monkeys are a dang nuisance...and almosy everybody hates them. Monkeys are always ruining food, stealing stuff, and biting people. If it weren't for the Hindus' reverence of life, particularly monkeys, then these little pests would probably be restricted to the forest regions. If I recall correctly, the same kind of thing happened with rats in NE India a while back. And because no one would kill the rats, the miliatary came in and "dealt" with them. Anyone remember when or if that ever happened?

Well, humans kill more monkeys than the opposite, so no big problem for me. Or shall it only be one specie on this planet and this specie pet and food supplier left?

This may add to fuel to the rumor that spanking your monkey can lead to your death...

I know, it's a stretch...  Smile

Northeast India, but in a way youre correct, I lived in a part of India that didnt have monkies in the streets, lol. I am not aware of the situations in other cities, as I havent been all around the country, and youre right tho, Monkies are a damn nuisance they steal, they are very deceitful animals and have sharp teeth.

Like the sausage, eh?  Silly

Anyway, I have heard that monkeys are not bad eating either. Their athletic nature probably means lean, tasty meat.
