Michael Moore Hates America...a Movie.

Anyone seen this yet? I saw it this past weekend and was thoroughly impressed with it. Michael Moore isn't the "Average Joe" he portrays himself as in his movies...he's a rich, pompous ass.

He avoided talking to the guy who made the film...it was a strikingly similar parallel to Roger Smith in Moore's first film "Roger and Me."

I'd definitely recommend you all go see it.

YET?

The film was made in 2004.

rotfl  Sounds very attractive - "conservatives" in the US sense of the word have always been such trend-setting supporters of the arts!

But of course! To some, dissent equals disloyalty and disloyalty equals hatred. Sometimes you'd think the McCarthy scandal had never happened.

So how does that take away from the question of if someone has seen it? I have not seen it, but keep your personal biased statements to the side. What does the "made date" have to do with whether it has something to state or not.

I for one don't really like Michael Moore, but definitely like the input he has behind his actions...like he gets the 9/11 victims into a boat and tries to get them into the Guantanamo Bay med facilities in 'Sicko'... that's wild!

If you like, Arthur Miller's play about the Salem witch trials... A well written play with really good criticism and similarities of Senator McCarthy's actions.

I haven't seen "MM hates America" yet, and I'm not really planning to do so. However, I did just saw "manufacturing dissent" at the Gent Filmfestival, also a documentary, but from a more neutral source, about Michael Moore and the tactics he uses. Quite revealing and shocking too. The message he tries to bring may be right, but the way he brings it and the fact that he would alter the truth just to make his message more spectacular completly discredits him and destroys his credibility more then any smut campaign ever could...

yes the first 20 minutes were very moore, yes i agree that the cuban part was full of pathos and not really as great as he makes it to be, since this care might be available for some, but certainly not across the whole country.
what really made this good though was the part about the life of people in canada, uk and france, including expats. this part is very well done, i hope its an eye opener to people.

I will agree that anyone who glams up their message to increase it's perceived effectiveness destroys his/her argument by distracting from any core truths and even casting doubt on those truths due to the proven dishonesty of the messenger.

I have seen MMHA, and contrary to the other anti-MM films out there it's actually quite good. It's very funny when they guy in it is interviewed live on tv and is extremely nervous. I think they should have chosen another title though since it's just awfull and offsetting.

The Crucible. Both the McCarthy and Salem witch trials were more or less the same, just no people chasing communists with pitchforks and torches or drowning them.

Regardless, I still hate Moore. The fact that he's originally from my hometown does not help either.

Your statement is still true. I don't think MM ever said he hates America, but it does make a catchy movie title.

I have very good health insurance and I aways hear people bitch about how we public employees have it so good when it comes to healthcare. Some people, at least in Michigan, want to bring us down to what the typical corporate employee gets. I say this. How come people say we get too much, but they don't complain they don't get enough. When I work a corporate job at Ford we didn't get crap compared to UAW guys. Some people said the UAW should get the same as us. I said the company owes us the same as the UAW. At my current job our union negotiated for us and our union and employer agreed to terms. Maybe some other people who complain they don't get enough ought to stop complaining and try to form a group and negotiate terms.

That is way off topic, but it just the way I feel about health care. I am a redneck conservative when it comes to all but three important political issues and health care is one of them.

I mentioned this a few times before. A couple of years ago we had a MM burning party at my house. A bunch of friends came by and we burned MM's books and videos. It was a very uplifting evening.

i am so looking forward to become a hatred author in the u.s., people even buy MORE books since they need so many, they have to burn them.
seriously, if you have to burn books, you so shoot yourself in the foot. you implicitly admit that you cant just "let it slide" and stand over whatever word is written, yet apparently fail to properly disassemble the content, because if you would, you would laugh at it and just ignore it, ergo stand over the issue since you know better. (any book, not only mm books)

That's just about the saddest thing I've heard this year.

I don't mind Michael Moore as I merely see him as a politically slanted, (like leaning over!) propoganda producer. Stories loosely based around fact to get a personal point across. Not a big deal. You would see more slanted, opinionated debate on topics on this website.

However, there was a moment in "sicko" where I did feel he was a bit of a wanker. When he sent that cheque to the guy who runs the Mike Moore hatred website, and MM said he did it anonymously. It's a bit of a hollow gesture when you then go an announce that to the world. I hope the guy sent the cheque back.

checkmark  Burning books because you hate the author for his views never fails to remind me of very dark times in my country.

Lighten up guys. It was all just fun not a political statement. I also had a party where we burned disco records (my apologies to Superfly), which was on the 25th anniversary of the great Disco record burn in Chicago. It also happened the Sox were playing the Tigers again, which was the reason we thought it was fun to burn. Every November I have an election sign burning party where we all burn those annoying signs. All candidates are represented.

My friends and I have burned lots of stuff in our fire pits.

You can knock on me all you want for bashing MM. I have a friend who loves MM (he gives me trouble when I knock on him), but has a picture of G.W. Bush in his garage with darts stuck in it. Burning books from MM and a darted GWB are the same thing. It is a free country and we can express our beliefs any way we want.
