Maybe I am just getting old but it seems to me that many interweb forums are just becoming a series of you tube links....even one of the professional forums i am on has degenerated into.."Look at this cool video" and then a link....I dunno, whatever happened to pictures and words????

Some of our trainers are busy downloading you tube vids as we speak as it means they don't have to create specific material but I hate them, they are usually really dodgy visual quality and I think they suck...Ok for a bit of fun and amusement now and again but are we evolving as a race from "Cut & Paste" to "Link ad Run".

What say the masses?????

To be honest - I hate using you tube...

The video quality is shite and the videos, most anyway, aren't professionally done - just some people with too much time and a video camera.

I don't know why else it is, I just try to avoid youtube as much as I can.

Only thing I use YouTube for is getting music vids from certain artists and wrestling stuff. Never really gave much of a sh!t about all those folks who try to showcase themselves on the net, way too much crap found amongst those vids.

I don't consider myself old though I do think I'm pretty tech savy and I am fed up with YouTube. Maybe not so much the site itself as it does have some funny yet dumb stuff on it. But more so the self absorbed yahoos on it that think we really give a rat's ass about their stupid movie concerning the color of the norning constitution from the Booberry Cereal they ate the night before.

To all the folks on YouTube...you're just not that damn interesting.

Agreed.

Also, the comments youtube members leave are always pointless, They cuss each other out and have temper tantrums.

My gripe with Youtube is with how they sometimes delete good vids, just because Viacom bitched about it. That's why, if some of those vids disappear, I try to search for them on myvideo.de (at least for German/Austrian/Swiss-German/Liechtensteinan/Belgian-German/Luxembourg-German stuff).

How did Viacom come to own just about everything TV related anyway?

You know it's bad when:

1. Folks record news broadcasts solely because they think certain news personalities reading aloud are hot and want to upload videos of them to Youtube.

2. Other folks search for and post these videos on various forums.

I love YouTube for one reason only. Music, I look at all the independant musicians on there, get ideas for songs to play, lean new techniques for songs I already know and the like. There's some very talented artists on there. Other than that, I agree, it's mostly just crap.

Dear Uncle Jafa,

I quite like YouTube. It's a fantastic medium for filmmakers, musicians, bloggers, etc. on a budget to upload their videos to the masses. Of course there are problems with it. The comments seem to be the number one issue, as you have thousands of ignorant responses in this digital age, where you can stay somewhat anonymous. It's easy to leave hateful comments from behind a computer screen. There are also plenty of terrible videos, but the amount of quality stuff, at least in my opinion, outweighs the bad.

But, that's not really what your thread was about. I understand what you're saying. Threads seem to lack creativity in many forums, so it's easy to let videos do the talking for you. Instead of coming up with an original idea, it's easy to say: Check this video out man!! That's my take on your intellectual quandary.  Smile.

Sincerely,
Dave in SAN

A while back the local channels here carried some commercial for a school where they taught how to make "viral videos" for sites like YouTube. Most of the stuff on YouTube is crap, and I got tired fast of people sending me video links in IMs insisting I click on them. Bah.

I will admit that some of them can be funny and some can even be informative if done right. That said, the likes of Rosie's video blog or some douchebag who thinks he's artsy and cool wearing a fedora ruin it for the good ones.

I agree that YouTube sucks, most of the time at least. My gripes:

1. Video quality, absolutely appalling
2. The comments, 99.9999% of which are apparently left by first-graders and/or complete idiots
3. 99% of videos = utter crap

Nevertheless, I'm thankful to YT for a couple of fine shows I discovered thanks to it. Family Guy and Penn&Teller: Bullshit! come to mind.
