Hoping someone can tell me where I'm going wrong here!

I built a very basic webpage using Front Page for a friend of mine who is starting a new business.

I registered a domain and got hosting through 1 & 1.

I used Cute FTP to upload the index.html file into the website folder, but am still getting the parking page.

I emailed 1 & 1 and they say that the website folder is empty.

What am I doing wrong?

When you say the website folder, did you upload it to the public_html folder? That's usually where all the website files have to be.

No, 1 & 1 say it has to go into a folder called website

Hmm... tried renaming the file "default.html" then?

I'm at a loss. I just recently made a webpage too, and my index file is placed in public_html. It works fine.

Try uploading it without using FTP. Try using the normal uploading feature on your control panel.

used Cute FTP to upload the index.html file

It has to be name index.htm NOT html if this is the first page to the website.

Hope that helps

Since when? Plenty of website I've worked with have had their index page use a full .html extension.

BigOrange, are you on Windows or Linux hosting?

If you're on Linux, general rule is use html extension. Windows, general rule is htm.

Don't know about the specifics of 1&1, but in general the .htm extension exists only because of the legacy of the DOS/Windows 3-letter extension. The traditional extension for these types of files is .html, as Unix/Linux don't have that limit. Most of the time though, web hosts configure their servers to accept either for a default page.

Thanks to everyone for their assistance.

I managed to upload it using Front Page and putting it in the root directory instead of the website folder.
