As the F1 thread 1 reached to 220replies I thought it would be better to do a second part.

Last thing from the other thread was that Todt is going to leave Ferrari. So lets continue here.

Hope we will have much and interesting stuff to talk about.

Did he ever do interviews on your race build ups? he's only ever had a few words with us.. not really much to miss.

He's not leaving Ferrari, hes going up in the team.

Exactly, he's not being sacked and Ferrari aren't being destabilized and Massa being fired/Alonso replacing him is not likely at all as some seem to think. They'll be just as good or better next year, and unless Massa drives poorly next season or the year after that he will keep his seat until his contract expires in 2010. Think about it... Alonso is a big name, but Ferrari don't need a big name to have recognition, they have more than enough of that because of their legacy. He is an excellent driver, but Massa is as well, and Massa's contract is certainly for MUCH less money than Fernando would demand. Alonso also proved in the last season that he is not comfortable at all being an equal number 1 or a number 2 driver on any team, while Ferrari currently have a pair of drivers that get along very well and work together to develop the car and for the championship. Basically, by hiring Fernando, Ferrari would be paying ALOT (not only Alonso's salary, but buying Felipe out of his contract) for a driver that is probably not any faster than Felipe and who very well could destabilize the team. It would be an utterly stupid move, and I think their managment is smart enough to realize that.

Not so sure about that..

Quoting Springbok747 (Reply 218):
Why do you think Ferrari have been destabilized? Do you know the inner workings of the team?

-The rushed nature of the announcement as it came clear that Ross Brawn was signing with Honda
-The promotion of a relatively inexperienced person to such a key role, he is Italian though and after the events of the last year or so that could be an important signal
-No clear indication of Jean Todt's future

Brawn must be kicking himself, A few months ago he mentioned he would go back to Ferrari if Todt wasn't there anymore

But I believe the situation is the other way round. Ferrari only named Todt's replacement once Brawn made his Honda decision, i.e. once they knew Brawn wasn't interested in coming back, they moved Domenicali in to Todt's position.

Quoting Waterpolodan (Reply 4):
Exactly, he's not being sacked

In the big bad world of corporate politics, sometimes folks are promoted "out of harm's way". Todt was really struggling after failing to bring a title home to Ferrari in 2005 and 2006. Well, the FIA helped out on one and McLaren's unwillingness to give one of their drivers preference gave him the other. It would make Ferrari look churlish if they'd sacked him after "winning" both titles.  wink

What's the betting he leaves within a year?

Vettel does have alot more experience in the car than Bourdais, so he'll probably catch up as he has more seat time. Funny that they have the same first name, though Vettel has an a where Bourdais has an e.

Well, even if they are destabilized, they have a few months to stabilize before Melbourne. Also..with Schumi's input the new car may be even better...we'll just have to see what happens next season.

See I don't know. When the 2007s critical dimensions were defined, Schumacher hadn't retired and Ross Brawn hadn't gone on sabbatical. So the car was probably designed with Schumacher in mind and heavily influenced by Brawn. Both are gone. 2008 will be the real start of the era of change at Ferrari, not 2007 like everyone predicted.

Absolutely. there are plenty of examples of people being moved upwards into meaningless jobs rather than go through the unpopular, or expensive, or litigatious moves of sacking someone. Look at those footbal managers that have become "directors of football" in the past.....

Todt has certainly been moved "upwards" to a position of less influence within Ferrari - something the comany has long done with its complex political games and various factions within.

Quoting Springbok747 (Reply 16):

Well Kimi is generally regarded as a rubbish tester, and althoguh Massa is willing, it still makes sense to get somebody like Schumi with all his experience and enjoyment of testing to provide some input and benchmarking if he is available.

It all depends on the decision taken by the FIA, ie if they only fine Williams and BMW or withdraw some constructor points then not, if they penalize the drivers then I am afraid the answer will be yes...

The FIA should apply the same rule that they gave to McLaren, (punish the constructor not the drivers)

On other things, I am soooooo happy to see Schuey back in the Ferrari, so gutted I could not go to the test sessions here in Circuit de Catalunya.... do they had to test Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.... all the days of which I am working?? damn!!
