In the last two weeks or so, Gmail has been unbelieveably slow. Is it me or is Gmail getting slower to load up, send emails, recieve emails, and whatnot? What gives?

For the record, Im using the latest version of IE7.

well, they have just updated. If its bad for you, and you were selected to have the new one, in the upper right, i believe you can click 'older version'. That may help you.

I have noticed it is taking a bit longer for Gmail to load during the log-in process, but once it is loaded, everything works as fast as before.

I guess I was selected to use the newer version. I hope it gets fast again soon, this is why I signed up for gmail in the first place: Its fast and it stores alot of photos vs. hotmail and other email services. And I like it alot. Ive had the account for a few months.

I thought I was the only one and being paranoid.

Mine still works slow and hard to transfer from brower to browser...there is like a delay...

their update should make general use a bit faster, while the first load time is a little slower. All the changes they made are great for me (using FireFox) - I do notice a bit quicker response when expanding some compressed messages. Before, it connected to the server, got the messages, then showed them. Now, it already has them loaded, just hidden, and so it shows then right then.

They did several changes like that, which, while the initial load time is a tad longer (I don't notice any increase), following use is quicker.

Also if you have a message and you click Forward, edit the new message but want it saved in the drafts in perpetuity then the new system is annoying as it still links it with the original message.

And yes, the loading time for me is a bit longer. Sometimes it doesn't load at all and I have to manually go to mail.google.com/mail.

I've noticed this since a couple of days ago. When I send out e-mails, it would seems like it has frozen but then after a few minutes it confirms the message has been sent. Weird... Sad

Another possibility is that you have installed add-ons to your browser that are slowing gmail down. Gmail is heavily dependent on AJAX and debuggers such as the IE developer tool bar and Firebug amongst other non-development add-ons can cause problems with xmlhttp requests and other AJAX mechanisms.

I think it has gotten slower, due to the enhanced functionality that has been added. I can't complain, it's free!

I have no add-on's on the toolbar below the URL bar. I don't like those so I dont allow them on there. It shortens up the screen is the main reason why I dont like them.

Sure was, something like 2800MB around 2 months ago. Though Google obviously has the money to buy the additional server capacity Big grin .

Last time I checked, they had over 500,000 (HALF A MILLION!) servers!! (!!!^3) over the world. Plus, they had bought the whole production line of a certain 750GB hard drive.

Incredible.

So far, I have "rights" to 2TB of space on their servers, since all my businesses I own use Google Apps, which provides 100 gmail accounts with your @domain.com ending. Each of those accounts has 2gb of space. Plus, taking into account all my misc websites, gmail accounts, and admin emails for other's websites, it comes to around 2TB.

Thanks google!  Silly

When I signed up for an account with gmail in August, it was at 2700 or so, IIRC. I'm surprised it jumped that high in a short time span. Incredible!!!!!

Its now at almost the "true" 5gb... right now just 5002MB or so.

When I signed up 3 years ago (I think) it was just above 1gb.
