Haven't seen any article yet, but just saw during the West Virginia-Cincinnati telecast that ESPN is saying Lloyd Carr will step down as Michigan's coach on Monday.
I know he's been OSU's whipping boy for 6 years, but it seems he's a class act, and that, as Kirk Herbstreit said in the pregame and during the OSU-UM game, he remembers why he was hired-not to just win football games, but to positively impact and mold the lives of the young men he recruits. He's been a credit to an outstanding University, and I wish him well in whatever he does now.

He is, and in all the years that he was the head man, Michigan was never in trouble with the NCAA, his players graduated, not the same can be said for Tressel at Ohio State, whom I believe does a great job in promoting Ohio State, but he has goes to the edge (Carlett) in recruiting everywhere he's been.

Now to discuss (REALISTIC!!!) possibilities for the new HC position. Its a damn shame those assistants will be around another year! Deboring should go as well.
Obviously all of the talk is about Les Miles being the front runner. What about the others? Tedford (Cal), Petersen (Boise St) , Leavitt (S. Florida), Bob Stoops (Oklahoma), Bobby Petrino (NFL - ATL) or even Urban Meyer (Florida). All have been mentioned as a possible successor.
I cannot believe Ferentz and Harbaugh are being mentioned.

I've also heard mention of Bill Cowher. Now, THAT would be interesting, and different.
How would that be different??? Because he was an NFL coach? If you thought Carr was too conservative, he ain't got nothing on Cowher. We don't want him.
I forgot to mention Gruden is also being mentioned.

No, it's because Cowher is a mean son-of-a-bitch. He's nurturing in a completely different way than Carr.
I don't see the line between NFL coaching and College coaching being all that big anymore. At least, I think the "elite" college teams are coached similarly to NFL teams. If anything, it's harder to be a college coach with more people to manage, and do-it-yourself recruiting, so we'd have to see if he'd be up to the new challenge.

He would be boring. And I never said the line was big.
Quoting D L X (Reply 10): Gruden won't work - no Midwestern ties.
I've sat back and watched your discussions about Michigan football for some time, and honestly feel you do not know about half the stuff you speak of 97% of the time. No midwestern ties? Oh my.

Well, if I'm wrong, correct me.
I was just reporting what I had heard. Clearly, I heard wrong. I just looked up his history and clearly, he has midwestern ties. Mea culpa.

It looks as if this parting has been a really classy one, unlike a lot of college football resignations. Apparently, Carr will still work for the university and collect his salary and he also secured 2 year contract extensions for his assistants, which is a really big thing.

Baaaad idea. Cowher was a great pro coach, but would make a lousy college coach.

Not particularly with his players. I hear he is actually a big softy with a loud bark.

I'd trust Petrino as far as I could through that crooked SOB. As for Meyer as a candidate...please...he's not going anywhere. And DLX would love to have a proven winner despite his protesting.

8-3? 5-3 in conference?
I'm talking about the beatdown provided to OSU last year in football. And you can add basketball to that as well. I never claimed we would be great this year and you don't want me to pull in your UCLA team as collateral damage now do you. Until OSU can beat us on any field or court any where in the world we will not be fearful of the sweatervest.

Guarantee Urban is on the "List of 30". Michigan is ranked like # 2 in the best job department. Its realistic.
I would love to have him, he owns ol' sweater vest and the Buckeyes.
BTW,
Martin was on a radio show today and said that it doesn't have to be a Michigan man and the search would also include NFL coaches.

Question, why are you so intently interested in Michigan all the time? Just curious. Even when you win, you're envious.

Envious? Not sure where you get that idea as I've never been envious of the Wolverines at any time in any of my years of following college football.
Quoting D L X (Reply 23): Question, why are you so intently interested in Michigan all the time?
I'm not intently interested. I'm just offering my opinion on the current situation. As for earlier in the year it was just a piling on mainly in an attempt to get a rise out of you after the team failed in their first couple of games. Childish for sure but like my signature says....
